low humididity w/ a cool mist

a foaf just got a cool mist humidifier and hooked it up to his terarium with a garden hose. he atached a coat hanger to the hose closest to the himidifier to keep the hose going up so the water will fall back into the humididifier and keep it from building up in the hose. after all that the rh is only at 75. does anyone know of a way to get the rh up, maby a bigger hose or maby take the caot hanger off. thanx for the help.

Well how long is his hose? And how high up is the hose having to humid air having to travel. Those would be the two things to fiddle around with to raise rH.

Id say your hygrometer probably doesn't go above 75 then. Many cheaper sytle hygrometers are not accurate at higher humidities. A cool mist will create near 100% humidity. If you can feel a cool mist coming out of the hose I'd say you probably got a bum hygrometer. By the way, the garden hose is not the problem. Thats what I used to use and it worked fine.

he folded the hanger i half so the hose goes up about a foot than another 2 feet to the terarium. his hygrometer was $30 from radio shack so he hopes its not that. it seems that mostly air is coming out of the hose, he will try to take off the coat hanger and shorten the hose and see what happens. any other info will be greatly apreacated...

also should he cover up the output on the humidifier and drill a hole to put the hose in or leave it taped to the regulare output

Sounds like you got a good hygrometer. It's probably not that then. I guess shorten your hose as much as possible. I would also cover up the normal output on the humidifier and cut a hole just big enough for your garden hose. At least, that's the way I used to have mine. I had 1 Vicks cool mist going to 4 different terrariums. Plenty of humidity in each too. Just work with it...you'll get it straight I'm sure.

well he cut the hose to about a foot and placed it on the side of the original air out put and he said their is still very little humidity coming out. anyone else got an idea... he is just dumb founded.... please help him......

Just add a layer of perlite on the bottom of the terrarium. The cool mist really helps because its constantly blowing in fresh, humid air, which is very beneficial. Just add the perlite and you'll get it higher. Take half the perlite out and get your 85% that you wanted when post pinning in casings.

he was really trying to keep from doing that he has a big teriarium and it gets real messy, thats why he got it in the first place.... anyone else

Loose fitting hose
No water in cool mist
Settings turned down low
Bad seal on terranium
Broken cool mist
No exhaust hole in terranium

Two hoses. This is what I have going on, and it is about 100% all of the time. I have to adjust the timer to lower the rh in the terrarium.

Open up the cool mist and make sure that the water pickup tube is properly screwed into the accelerator disk and that it is not clogged. Also feel around the seam where the top and bottom of the humidifer fit together to check for leakage.
