What would you consider too old to try to learn a new instrument?

I would really love to take up the cello

Also what's, in your opinion, the easiest instrument to learn?

I'd say the easiest to learn is the piano, simply because you get to bypass the awkwardness of fretting and strumming (or using a bow) and it is the easiest instrument to apply theory to.

Now, for simplest instrment to learn... there is no such a thing as a simple instrument if you take it to its limits... just choose the one you like better, you'll enjoy it more.

Having said that, guitar is good if you wanna play around and you can start playing tunes fast, REALLY fast.Good for bbqs :tongue:

The piano is the easiest one to understand harmonically speaking, and it's really cool if you can afford to have one at home. Classy.

Those are my favourites, but YMMV.

I started out on bass before moving to guitar, and hope to learn drums soon.

Bass is a really great instrument. It seems pretty basic at first, but if you practice, you can do some incredibly amazing stuff on bass.

Guitar and Piano are good as well, of course. I really love a good piano. Violin is great as well if that fits your taste.

And if you really want to be my hero, you could take up the saxophone.

You're never too old, although obviously dont expect to go near as far as if youd been doing it (most) all you life.

I have a 22 year old student beginner at the moment, and she's progressing much faster than all the young ones. So just shows you.

Younger students have the ability to learn more and retain it, but the older ones usually have more of a desire to learn so they seem to progress more quickly.

The easiest instrument to learn is the one you want to play the most. 

I recommend the guitar :thumbup:

Like homey said, you're never too old. My goal is to learn to play as many instruments as possible. Guitar is fairly easy to pick up the basics of. Get some calluses, learn 5 chords and with the right strumming, you can play thousands of songs. Harmonica is also pretty easy, the ladies dig it and it goes great with your newly formed guitar skills.

you can never go wrong with a tambourine, though.

Is the tambourine really considered as an instrument? To be fair, you dont really need to "learn" how to play it.

Like they say, no such thing as too old, but if you wanted to learn in order to pursue a career, then there becomes a limit, but it really all depends on how fast you learn.

I would say smaller woodwind instruments are easier to learn, i.e. flute, clarinet, and alto sax.

Strings are harder because there's much more variable for playing out of tune and such.

Piano can be hard for some and easier for others, it really depends. I personally need to start learning the piano, I could be a one man band! It's also my favorite instruments, you can rip the best lines on  a piano if you know theory and are technically good.
