Help with hiding my IP address

Could someone talk me though hiding my IP address (i guess how to use proxies).  I would say my CPU knowledge is similar to how well a 5 year old understands the world.  The absolute basics are understood, but real knowledge is completely lacking, along with why certain rules are followed.  For instance, i know i should use proxies, but i have not real clue how to do so.  I cannot afford to purchase (;)) any software. 

Please help me, i realize hiding from the gov, or my Internet provider is basically impossible.  But to the best of my knowledge, someone with some basic computer skills could probably locate me though my IP, and that is unacceptable.

i wouldn't trust anything. their is always cookie crumbs.

even if it did "work", you might hide what you do tomorrow but you can't hide what you did yesterday.
