Can anyone recommend a good program to hide my IP address while using a web based emailer? I've used a proxy server type program (JAP) before.. Was wondering if there is something better?

When I was a student sysadmin for the college I attended, somebody used one of the computer lab machines to send a death threat anonymously to the US president through a guestbook page on some government site. The US Secret Service showed up a few days later. They dusted the computer keyboard for finger printers and took all the video surveillance tapes for the building. I don't know if they made an arrest or not. Whatever you are doing, be careful...

TOR

Basically, it runs in the background as a proxy on your machine, so you have to set up your browser to use localhost:8118 (I think, there's instructions on the site) as a proxy for both regular and SSL connections. But unlike a normal proxy that would just act as a bridge between you and the server, this one routes your connection through lots and lots of anonymous TOR servers first, making it impossible for any site your viewing to know your true IP. And since it finds a new route every time you refresh a page, you don't even keep the same IP when you're browsing two pages on the same site.

I can assure you, NOTHING like that. I had no intentions of any illegal activity when I made my request. Want to use it more of as a prank. But thanks for the warning anyways.
