picking up alcohol problem again

about nearly a year ago, i decided not to drink alcohol anymore as i was heavily binging and drunk far more often than you'd call normal.

that was the time i decided to quit totally and it worked great for half a year, i met a girl during the process and were together for 7 months now.

well, i occassionally had a drink here and there but never overdid it, then the christmas party of my old highschool happens and i get so pissed
not being able to walk or communicate anymore,
i ended up dropping to the floor and hurting my knee and on top of all my mom @ who's place i stayed over christmas was at home and saw me.
she considered calling the ambulance as i was so massively fucked up.

anyway, eversince and its just been a couple weeks, im falling back into the habit that made me quit back then,
the relationship with my girl is having serious trouble atm and this week i was drunk already twice.

shes about to break up with me as it seems and i am SERIOUSLY afraid of myself going back to being shitfaced often again,
sadly i drink when problems are in my life and if this relationship breaks up i can nearly predict what will happen
as i am so weak that it is impossible for me just to have ONE drink, doesnt work, and if thats over oh my,
shit's gonna hit the fan.

Yeah I feel you man... I can probably count the number of nights in the past 8 months that I haven't had anything to drink on my fingers and toes... lately I've tried to slow down, as I've been seeing a girl who isn't really down with me getting drunk every night of the week... I even did good and went 3 days without a drink over last weekend... but then all this week has just been a drunken rage. I need to stop before I seriously get fat... I've already packed 20 pounds onto my once slim, athletic body over these months... I feel like I'm at the point now where I either stop and lose weight, or continue, get fat, and just be a drunken slob for the rest of my life...

The best method I've found to stop myself from drinking is to remind myself of all the stupid shit drinking has caused in my life, and of the fact that it has done absolutely nothing positive for my life.

That and a couple xanax's to get to sleep...

yeah, alcohol is by far the worst drug to me.. i hate how alcohol makes me feel when i get more than just buzzed.. like i get aggressive and shit..

i know others wont reccommend this, but have you ever considered smoking more pot? (idk if you smoke right now).. trading 1 addiction for another has worked for me.. as long as you can smoke and it doesnt put you at risk to lose your job, ect.

I know it is hard, but if you can see your life slowly going down the crapper, you must change something now before it gets too bad. Tell your girl that you are cringing so hard for alcohol you want to fuck to get it out of your brian. Fuck her brains out, and then realize what you have.

Alcohol is only good in moderation and if you can't moderate you shouldn't be drinking IMO. I am just falling off my 10 month alcohol binge and have not purchased a bottle in about 2 weeks. However when my friends show up with one, it doesn't stop me. But that is just me and my weak mind.

Try to focus on all the things you need to change in your life. Get some more money, buy some nice things you can't drink or smoke away. Put you and your life into a better position before you feel comfortable having a drink again. Pay some bills, have some fun. Drinking is much more enjoyable when you are happy and doing good, drinking when you are down and out is when it becomes a larger problem, because you think it is fixing things, but only when you are drunk. A temporary fix, is not a fix at all, it is only prolonging the inevitable.

Good luck. Eat some mushrooms and focus on self-evaluation.

That reminds me of something I read about. Keep one of those thick rubber bands on your wrist like a bracelet, like the ones the post office uses to keep your mail together, and pull it back and snap yourself on the wrist whenever you get the urge to do something you are trying to quit; something about your brain associating the urge with that pain on your wrist. It's worth a try.

just 4 beers today but still thats 4 to many.

i dont know HOW i am going to change, but my girl is gone, im certain about that
AND i am certain that this will not fuck me up ! cause i DONT WANT IT TO !

how i am going to realise that ? i dont know now .. but i am and i will.

oh yes it is .. normal day out +10 beers and whatnot in liquor usually makes it.

so its over, life puts me to a test it seems - its so good to be alive and so fucking painful at the same time..

be strong my friend, i have confidence you can fight the urge not to drink. focus all your energy in strength training and going to the gym - if that makes you happy then continue it!

sorry to hear about you and your girl, u two looked very sweet together. but if it's not meant to be, then it's not meant to be. the perfect girl will stroll into your life sometime no doubt.

If you can drink 4 and leave, you are better off than you think.

The "true" problem drinkers can't leave once they get started... By showing the strength to only have 4, you are way ahead of the game.

I pretty much gave up on alcohol after 10 years of "battleship" drinking as we called it. You know, the guy who shows up to a party and drinks EVERYTHING... first to show up, last to leave. :smile:

After a certain point, it just loses it glamour. Weed is a much better way to adjust.
