Youth Culture

I'm American, therefore familiar with the youth culture of the US, mainstream & otherwise.  While I was taking a shower today it occurred to me that except for reading a couple posts about pikeys and psy-trance kids, I really don't know anything about the youth culture of other countries, mainstream & otherwise. 

This post is for shroomerites from around the world; what are the prevalent youth cultures from your country? What are your opinions of these cultures, and where do you see them going?


I have a bunch of shit to do, but I wanted to post this while I was thinking about it. I'll check back later this evening to see where it all went.

They are all obnoxious.
They all listen to shit music.
They all do drugs and drink.
A good portion of those do it to excess.
They all think they're the shit.
They all think they're invincible.
They all buy too much shit and talk way too much.

Unless they're from a third world country. In which case they probably are just obnoxious and play stickball in the streets too much.

i'm UK and all i can say is that they are not going somewhere nice.

The American influence has turned them into 50 cents wannabe chumps! They pullin BB uzi's and runnin crack at the age of 9 - its not good!

And whats worse is they all trying to be the same - they go round in gangs all clothed in chav gear - so that they all look like little clones. That just shows me that they are scared to be an individual though.

Of course, theres lots of kids that are sound people but the majority are doin the wannabe gangsta routine nowadays.

There is also a strident emo scene these days in the UK. That is slightly gay for the impression of style over substance but i couldnt really judge. What the dank master up there said. On the outskirts of this are the more 'alternative' types who are sitting around listening to Bowie et all and doing shrooms and pot in a sedate fashion. Or is that just me.

Uniting chavs and alts there is only drum and bass and a select few offshoot artists.

I'm in the uk too.

The prevalent social groups in children are either chavs/pikeys who all are trying to be gangsters. When my mate started dealing pills he got pulled into their horrible subculture, and met 14 year old smack / crack addicts etc etc.

On the other end of the scale is the emos. These people don't really seem to have many aspirations, and in 20 years time will all be working in the local supermarket / shops in towns etc.

Then you got people like me. we are a minority group, but I imagine we are similar throughout the shroomery (for the large part anyway). I wish I had more people like you guys to shelter me from the epitome of  urban life.

I wish I could gather up my friends and just move away from it all and live off the fat of the land, and tend the rabbits :grin:

Saying that I don't see myself doing too badly, as I have an aptitude for maths and chemistry (despite the fact that I use psychedelics - if anything they have helped) I intend on studying them through university, and I'm in my second year at college now. :grin:

Up here in canada, at least in my area, it's mostly a bunch of wigga's (what we call those fucking idiot white suburban pussys, who walk around pretending they have a gang and act/talk/dress like they grew up in a black american ghetto :doublefu: ) then theres the metal heads, nu-metal heads, we even have a large hick population (, a small raver scene... The (underground) punk scene around here is thriving and growing fast, everytime I go to a show, I see a lot of new faces... Emo is starting to become 'the cool thing to be' in highschools/colleges/universitys, which sucks, but they are pretty entertaining to harrass when they decide to come to one of our shows, they cry almost every time:)


I live in Alberta, I fucking hate it.

well.. i'm not from abroad, but i'm 19 here in california and i know a thing or two about the groups here.

basically... shit

theres the bro kids in their trucks, drinking beers, listening to kottonmouth kings and slightly stoopid. loud, abnoxious, stupid. worst kind of people in my opinion.

then theres a whole hardcore scene, (especially big down here in souther n california). they dress in all black, go to shows, and beat each other up and scream.

the emo scene here really isn't too big, unlike the other posts i've read of youth abroad.

but, in my school at least, ive noticed a much larger group of kids who take alot of interest in psychedelics and music, and thats whom i find myself being around the most...

ahah and then theres rockabilly kids... :thumbup:

Yeah I've met a bunch of kids that know whats up. There's about 1 of them for every 100 wankstas, and 100 emo kids, sad to say.......but at least SOME people get it.




I'm surprised this thread hasn't gotten more responses, I'm starting to see what so many old regulars who've stopped posting were talking about.

Around here, we've just had an explosion of emo kids which just makes me laugh. Before that, nu metal kids and mall goths were kind of popular while the fringe people. Wiggas (chavs) are probably the predominant youth culture here, or at least the most commonly seen one. Then you have your ravers and teenyboppers, which I guess is just standard for most places.

Then you have your fringe and outsider cultures, which seem to be mostly handfuls of younger kids and more older people. It's good that way though - all the young kids who only got into a subculture just because it was trendy or cool, they eventually grow out of it. And who's going to give me shit for being a metalhead when you've got emo kids to hassle :wink:

A major advantage to being a drug person is I automatically get respect amongst the less savoury aspects of society, making me able to wonder around without the thought of getting harassed even cross my mind.

even more so when you're supplying these kids older brothers :grin:

i had this conversation recently with a friend who been to the US for a while...

basically in Israel once a kid goes into the army he's done for :smirk:
our brains dry up for three years and we get really cynical about everything, we develope a shit attitude regarding life, we loose the innocence and playfulness of being alive...
it's not JUST the army, it's the whole way of life in Israel, we're taught to fear and worry about all sorts of shit and we always try to appease the people around us.

once we get out of the army we feel like we have to make up and we're in a constant hurry to figure out what the fuck we're supposed to do next (usually kids will just follow the destined path laid down by the lord all mighty :smirk: (school/army/UNI/job/kids/mortgage... death) and won't give it much more thought then that, but that's the same people you all talk down on through this thread)

where as in the states 18 Y/Os are free to do what they want and are pushed to be self sufficient individuals... mentally i think they're much more "free" and so probably much more "lost"?

lol my mom just came in the room and started worrying me about my life (i'm planing to move out so she found it necessary to share her discontent :smirk:)

anyway there are all types of people all over the world but some places allow different standards of living, i'm sure some jungle boy out there feels much better about his life then i do, even though i can buy all the fruits i want travel and study! there's beauty in simplicity :shrug:

we all wish we had our little corner in the world, where no one could fuck with us and we'd be free to do whatever. alas modern society is just too complex and fucked up, it's hard to find yr spot!

I'd be interested to hear what all these people denouncing the mainstream describe themselves as.

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of them fall into the neo-hippie or trustafarian realm, which is no better than the rest of them.
