25% colonization and pinning

well.. i thought these couple of jars were all going to die so i placed them outside my incubater where it is a little cooler and they get exposed to light but only minimally. They colonized more but this one is already pinning. Any ideas? i know most would just cut off the uncolonized part.. but that's really hard to tell! with "cakes" wouldn't most the verm/brf just fall off when uncolonized? should i dunk and case this or just birth it.. with my fave method the chronic tek. To keep all the contams to one's own jar.

They are pining cuz they are in the light.
Keep them out of the light and they wont pin!

Question...why did you think they were going to die? Possible contams? If so I would just scrap them and start over...if not I'd just let them sit out and in the light and pin invitro...wait until it looks like it needs to be picked and them open up the jar...most likely when you do this the uncolonized part of the jar will become contaminated after a little....you could always carterize and cut away the uncolonized area but with 25% colonization it would seem like a waste...

cover it up with something dark and it should finish off colonization but the invitro mushrooms might rot so maybe you want to start over again its your call

why do you think i have bacteria? It just smelled funny in my incubator and they were colonizing very slow. Or i'm just impatient. Anyways. thanks for all your advice. I'll probably just wrap it in aluminum foil and put it someplace warm. now the best colonizing temp is 86 right.. isn't that a little high for fruit? so maybe it would slow the fruiting and increase colonization? or is it pretty much strain dependent?

Usually, when your cake is pinning, it's saying that it feels confident that it has enough nutes to growq mushrooms. Let these grow in the dark, then pick them under very sterile conditions. VERY VERY STERILE. Put them back in the dark, and pick out the ones that contam before full colonization (of fight with a bleach tek, and scape the uncolonized peices off and then put in an quart jar ala modified invitro tek)

why possible bacteria?
well you say you only have 25% colonization and they are over a month old.....IME that tells me it may be bacteria. what temps were you incubating at? dudes jars colonize in 2 weeks give or take a few days. if you have a incubator then you should be incubating at optimal temps which would give you full colonization much sooner than a month. and you say you smell something.......?
