Thanks for posting the link to Phoenix Motors! It looks like a possible contender for my next car. After I put this post up, right after watching the movie, I did a web search for hours on what was out there and I didn't find that one.
Yes, Toyota stopped production on it's EV at the same time GM did and they had even fewer out. I found one, used one for sale but the tech is a little outdated compared to the ones coming out today.
You guys wouldn't believe that when GM recalled their EVs (all were sold on a lease to purchase option so they had a legal right to recall ALL of them or press grand theft charges against the owners) they said, it was because of no demand for them, even though, there was a wait list for the cars and they had been making 4 a day. They also said that they were going to donate them to museums, high school science teachers etc, and not send them off to be crushed. They destroyed them all to bits never to be seen or heard from again as if they never even existed.
The makers of this movie caught it all on film and now everyonw can see they existed and hear about the sham.
When some protesters found the last group EVs recalled sitting in a GM back lot, they had a wait list of people begging to buy them back and offered GM a check for over a million dollars to do so. GM refused and hauled them off to be destroyed. Unbelievably senseless!
It was a nice looking and practical car and their owners loved them.
GM said potential customers were complaining about range between recharges in a survey they did. (Even though research showed that the average driver drives 29 miles a day and those cars had a 60 mile range between charges. So one of their science techs (cool old dude in the movie-he also developed solar shingles for roofs)gave them a battery that would give a 150 mile range. GM bought the Patent, then SHELL oil bought it from them and locked it up and threw away the key.
Unbeleiveably fucked up.
I calculated my daily average for the last 2 and half years I've had this car and its just 1.5 miles a day.
For those who drive more, I found cars out there now with a 300 mile range that come with recharging boosters that can give an 85% recharge in just 40 minutes. There's another out there that looks like a Ferrari, is faster then a Dodge Viper with battery technology equivalent to whats in a PC laptop.
I'm glad the white house hasn't gone mad crazy enough to legalize electric cars and that some smaller players are putting them out there.
I also found a company in West Palm that will convert any car. Don't know what the cost is though and they are selling a handful of converted Porche's for in the low 60s, with the 300 mile range and same booster recharger's. Thats 30 grand less then that Tesla. Goddamn that Tesla is sweet.
Not sure what color I would get it in Disco Cat. I like that blue shown, had an Alpha Romeo with that color once, but I like Red which my RX8 is now. I want to find out Monday how much it will cost to convert the RX8 first because I like its sporty look and handling but that it also has a back seat. (I have a kid) Maybe they might have to take that out though. I'll have to see.
I want to find out how much that one by Phoenix Motors is.
I hear you on making a bio diesel hybrid versions of the Tesla too DK. That would be the ultimate and probably easy for them to do.
I think we will replace our other car with a hybrid of sorts for long distance driving which we do very little of and more for when we need more seats and storage.
Disco,
GMs new EV they just introduced with all the features of a Sedan, is just a concept car right now, not for sale and no word on plans for mass production. It looks like "show" to me to take the heat off for when more people start seeing this movie "Who killed the electric car." GM comes out smelling like lying pond scum in the movie for caving in to the Oil companies.
Please watch the movie everyone and tell others to see it, especially those with the means to switch to electric.
Imagine having a car that costs one to two pennies a mile in electricity to drive and no more stops at the fuel pump.
Did you guys know that Carter had put solar panels on the roof of the White house and and as soon as Regan got into office, he took them off of the roof.
That's beyond asinine and insane.
Conversion kits for electric are out there I found, however, it seems like much more of a procedure then the conversion kits for bio fuels. Yet, where are you going to refuel unless you start homemaking your own bio fuel like Zippoz is. Everyone has an outlet to plug into unless an apartment or condo set up doesn't allow for or accommodate an extension cord.
I know a lot of shroomerites care and are aware of the bullshit and like me, may not have been aware that new and improved electric cars are out there. I use to think the best of what was available now was just a converted golf cart that did 25 mph. I did not know about these others until last night which is why I am posting this.
Thanks to anyone posting links about other EV options available for purchase now.
