movies galore! suggestions PLEASE =)

I don't know if anyone watches as many movies(DVD) as I do (3-5 a week), but if you do, and you don't know about http://www.netflix.com - you NEED to check it out. It's awesome.

Anyhow, you get a que list - where you pick movies, as many as you like. They mail out 3 at a time, with return envelopes. You then send them back as you finish them. It's pretty rad.

So, i'm starting to run out of stuff that I want to see, i'm looking for suggestions..

Any genre is fine, though my favorites are things that provoke introspective thought. Even to the light extent of the matrix. I mean don't get me wrong, i like pootie tang and such just as much as the next guy, but those are my favorites.

So, anyways - if anyone/everyone could give me a movie or 3, that would rock =)

doh, neither of those are available. They don't have everything - it has to be on DVD. If it's on DVD and they don't have it, it's probably pretty fucking obscure.

Gattaca (highly recommended)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Highly recommended)
Matrix
Great Expectation (Probably my favorite movie, very loose interpretation of the book)

  KILLER CONDOM a German Comedy and a Troma Films import. Its very funny (there are subtitiles, though) and its strange to watch everyone speaking German in a film shot in NYC. Ahhh... but a Nazi can still dream, eh? :blush:

i'm really into foreign films and these are what i suggest:

Das Experiment (translated to The Experiment - German film) about men who are picked to be prison guards/prisoners and the experiment goes apeshit. Drama/Action

Die Xue Shuang Xiong (translated to God of Cookery - Chinese film) About the downfall of a famous Chef who then becomes famous again. Comedy

Baise Moi (traslated to Fuck Me - French film) 2 women go on a killing spree loads of sex scenes, u know the french :tongue: Action/Drama

Battle Royale (Japanese film) a group of students are sent to an island to kill each other as punishment from the adults. Action/Drama

Divided we fall (Czech film) About a couple that hides their boss' jewish son even though they could get their ass kicked by the Nazis. Drama/Comedy

The Scent of Green Papaya (French/Vietnamese film) story of a village girl's life serving a rich vietnamese family and what becomes of her. Drama

Levottomat (Finnish film) About a guy who can't find love, screws ppl loads of sex scenes makes u wonder how reserved Finns really are. Romance/Drama

My Big Fat Greek Wedding About a Greek woman marrying a foreigner and how her family reacts to it. Comedy

Visitor Q (Japanese film) really FUCKED up story but you got to watch it like twice to truly get the meaning...basically this is how it's fucked up...first scene the dad is fucking his daughter and pays her. Drama

City of God (Brazillian film) good story of how kids grow up in Rio di Janero. Drama/Action

A Man Without a Past (Finnish film) nomiated for an Oscar in the foreign film catagory, about a man who gets fucked up in the head and has to rebuild his life. Comedy/Drama

I thought Blow was a good movie.
I dunno maybe it was stupid and I'm the only person n the world who liked it lol.
I kept trying to get people to watch it with me and no 1 seemed like they liked it.

Ha ha, I can't believe someone recommended 'The Last Castle', my friends and I joke about that movie all the time as the worst movie ever made. When Robert Redford clutched that flag at the end I almost puked.

Waking Life its a movie done over so it looks cartoony. Its about lucid dreaming. My friend watched last night after ingesting 1/4. It got into his head and tweeked him out for like 5 hours. We had the duct tape ready but we were able to talk him down.

I just got the director's cut on DVD and I actually thought it was far too long. For once I prefer the cut version of a movie.

waking life is an awesome movie to watch while under the influence..... holy CRAP!

I don't usually recommend watching ANY movies but man this one is definitely worth it

The DVD by mail thing seems so silly now, but I guess it was what made Netflix a dominant player before the streaming thing was viable.


Anyone remember Realplayer from the early days of streaming video? So trash back then. Apparently it's still a thing though.
