REPTILE BEDDING FOR CASING -Organic-
    #644914 - 05/25/02 02:49 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

Today I came across something that I would like to share..

Forest Bed is an expandable organic/natural substrate perfect for tropical vivaria. Compressed for easy storage, Forest Bed and Giant Forest Bed expand to nearly seven times their original size by adding water. The natural choice in reptile home decor. Regular Forest Bed is enough substrate for a 40 gallon aquarium. Giant Forest Bed is approximately eight times more material. Nontoxic and odorless.
Harmless if ingested.

Its a brick basically, ity looks like compressed shredded bark or something, it supposedly hold moisture really we..

Just wanted to know if this is similar to the bed a beast some people use...

Is this a good straight casing mix? heres a pic

thanks alot!!!

Today I bought something very similar to that its called Sphagnum moss (also compressed and with water says it expands up to 11 times its size) and I was also wondering if this is a good casing mix (I was going to 50/50 it with Verm.)
Hope to hear back about both of these and good luck with your purchase.

Portal...

With sphagnum moss I think you'll have to add lime to your 50/50 mix to get the proper pH level.

Coir holds the water well and you can tell when it's getting dry by the color of it. Be careful not to spray too much or you're opening yourself up to contams. The yeild on it is great as it seems to allow real fast mycellium colonization and supply the fruits with lots of water.

Exactly!!

And when making up your casing layer with the Coco Coir be sure and not make it too wet!!!!
Better to be a little on the dry side rather than too wet... Coco Coir that is too wet = Green Death!
