I'd say substance D is speed with psychedelic side effects, maybe like Ecstacy without the happiness. PKD was on amphetamines in real life if I'm not mistaken.

Well seen it, I find it to be a waste of brain entertainment.
I did not gain anything from it..
I do like the musical ambience and the visual effects.
The story was bad..

i was also wondering about that dedication from phillip k dick at the end. all those people he lists as being dead or fucked. does anyone know enough about PKD to know what happened to all those people? what drug destroyed them all.

Poly-drug substance abuse. Just like real life.

The movie is about all drugs as a whole. That is why I think he used a fictional drug like "substance d."

The book elaborates on this much more, all the death being cut with various things.

I enjoyed it equally sober and tripping. :shrug:

As to what Substance D is, I think it's a drug that makes everything else hyper-addictive and perhaps more potent as well. That was my impression anyway.

Meh. The dialogue was poor, and Keanu's monologues agonizing. Then again, on second thought, Waking Life wasn't that great, either.
