Re: I need some advice on Opiate withdrawl... [Re: SoulSurfer]

After numerous attempts at detoxing on my own, trying every method possible, from locking myself in hotels, to using other drugs, to just going cold turkey, I was never able to quit on my own..too painful. I ended up "detoxing" in jail on nothing from heroin, and man, I do not recommend that! Detox places are expensive, but if you can find loved ones to help you out I would recommend that. I don't really know how the comedown is from oxys compared to heroin though, good luck, and I know what youre going through :frown:

The detox I was in was free for people with no health insurance. I had to go to a detox (which was basically one that only accepted heroin and alcohol withdrawal cases). I couldn't do it by myself. I tried tapering down, using different opiates, tried cold turkey a few times, and whatever else, but it was too bad. That pain is wicked. Ended up doing the monitored suboxone taper down, which went well to take out most of the severe pain.

I didn't feel totally back to normal for at least 2 months after I quit using H, but I had done it every day for at least a couple years straight so naturally it's going to feel weird to even be sober. Even when the severe pain passes, you may still have insomnia and bodily discomfort for way longer. It fucks with the mind and body causing all kinds of stress.

You can do it man!! Stare that B!tch in the face and give it all you have. Just think of what condition you've been in if simply not having the garbage in your system makes you feel this bad. Life awaits......

Good luck!

Both my father and brother are addicted to opiates (and a lot of other things), and I have to say, going through this week or two of misery will be nothing compared to the lifetime of misery that I am seeing them go through.

Its all about willpower; know that you will be a stronger and better person when you are through with this.

You can do this.  Just remember, you're past day 1, and you have that behind you.  Look to the future, and think of how wonderful it will be to be clean, and not dependant on anything.  I've gone through it, I know the misery of tossing and turning and sweating and just wanting to sleep but not being able to.  Lots of hot showers help, and a ton of will power.  Eat, even though you don't want to, and drink tons of water.  You can do this man, and if you need to talk, we're all here for you.

Thanks all, Im stil alive, although a little worse for wear. Days are better than nights, night are so restless and tormenting.
I can't believe I let this sneak up on me like this. It started out as once in a while use and it slowly turned into every day, then a few times a day...

I realize now that I was addicted WAY before it got to this point, it's just so sneaky you don't even see it coming. God if my going through this can make anyone think twice about messing with this shit, it will have been worth it. The stupid thing is that a part of me is still holding on, wanting that high, even in the middle of this nightmare.

There are some really good and caring people here, thank you so much.

I wish "drug sites" like the Shroomery got some props in the media for threads like this... I've never had the displeasure of opiate withdrawl, so my only advice is to listen to those who have. Good Luck man!!

yeah, because the best media attention we could get would be about junkies getting off smack.

the way i see it, if you EVER dose on an opiate before completely comming down from the last dose, you have just invited a withdraw for whenever you actually stop.
for every time you prolong the inevitable withdraw by keeping the beast fed, you increse that inevitable withdraw.

you DON"T have to be addicted to have withdraw BTW. you can GET addicted just trying to stop the withdraw. or trying to keep it from starting.

but then, you can also take tiny doses when the withdraw starts to let it ride out slowly and less intense....
but you can easily screw this up, if you take enough to ease the withdraw COMPLETELY, you're pretty much back where you started. And if you take enough that you ENJOY it, then youre actually DEEPER into the withdraw debt.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naltrexone

You need ketamine & Naltrexone. Rapid detox while in a near k hole, and you should sail through the worst part.

Good luck though man

It will get better. There's a medicine called suboxone that helps with withdrawal symptoms...maybe you could find some.
