You dont need all that much light, basically ambient room light or just any light for a few hours a day should be fine. My friend tells me that by blacking out the sides of the container and making sure you have some light overhead the shrooms will grow taller and straight... Also he says dont use anything that is high intensity, shrooms are delicate and bright light combined with heat can hurt the little guys.
Dont take any of this as the word, but its pretty general and should help you out.
A 40 Watt flourecent lightbulb a few feet over the terrarium/incubator is fine. a 3 foot shoplite works good.

hi rain!
well this is what i was told...
all you need is enough light to read a book in... if you can read a book in the light, then its pleanty...you dont want anything higher then a 20 watt bulb near your terr.. the higher the light the less humidity you will have, i found out the hard way... the hotter the light was , the hotter the terr got and dried out my cakes a bit... get some christmas lights and put them above your terr. just cut out a hole on top of the terr and put some plexi glass or something on top and have the lights shine through that for 12-16 hours aday for pinning.... i hope that helps you -pez

you dont want to do that!
they will fry, and you will have pancakes! lol dim lighting,...just enough for them to know which way is up... if you use christmas lights, thats cool, just unplug them every 12 hours... its not on a timer but its not a big deal.. you dont want to kill them...or over heat them -PeZ

we had a aquarium blue light about 8 inches long to light up a whole closet full of cased rubber maids an aquariums when it was time to fruit we left the bulk set ups in light 24 7 and didnt have any problems at all ,but 12 12 seems to be the norm if you have a timer or are available to turn the lightsd on an off for the cycle .MEW

i used a 100 watt compact flourescent light overtop of it the whole process ...12/12 cycle from mycel bag to fruiting... COMPACT FLOURESCENT lights do not put off enough heat to make a difference in ambient room temperature...Marijuana plants can actually grow into the light and against a flourescent light with no signs of light or heat damage, so mycology placed under it 1.5 ft would have plenty of light and no heat "stroke" so to say. Check my 1st flush post for how it turned out... Just my 2 cents... dOc
