Lighting question

Do shrooms have a particular spectral preference? Will they grow when cased in a dark container, covered with a plexiglass lid, and placed in indirect sunlight? If I completely cover them, could I use a normal light bulb on them?

luvdemshrooms, u answered 5 questions in the last 1/2 hour by telling people not to post these questions. if you would have answered 1 with useful info, u might have accomplished something.. instead you insist on bashing people because they want live confrontation. The more you bash, the more people look, the more people look, the more wasted bandwidth. If ya dont like the post, ignore it. Makes everyones lives more enjoyable.. And to answer your question, A light bulb will work, indirect sunlight will work. They dont need much light.

Mushrooms only need light to know which way to grow. Your container will be fine. Don't keep em in total darkness.

People asking easily researched questions over and over is why they redoing this site and are making a FAQ. So it would seem that I'm not the only one who feels the way I do. And would your life really be more enjoyable? If so, maybe you need to work on that.

And as an afterthought, if bandwidth being wasted is a concern of yours, than people doing a search before posting a question that has been asked and answered many times should not only make the experience here more enjoyable for you, but it would save more bandwidth than my short "look it up" replies.

Id hate to argue with you BUT, scrolling through 25 pages looking for a simple 3 word answer wastes a hell of alot more bandwidth than answering his question from the get-go would. And besides, perhaps someone has a better answer than the pf tek describes. I rather enjoy hearing people's experiences, and results due to alterations. I heard some people leave light on 24/7, some 12/12, some sunlight, and some give em barely any. Is there really a perfect amount? Does the amount of light actually affect yeilds, and if you put a light on a 1/2 hour timer (on and off every half hour) would the mushrooms be fooled into thinking the days are passing by faster resulting in earlier flushes? This is how info and opinions are shared. ALl questions shouldnt have to be genious orientated ones.

This is a little off topic.. but just what nobodycares42 said triggerd this question. Does anyone else think of wierd shit about what might be an advantage towards the growth and potency of mushrooms? Like I was wondering what effect a black light would have (maybe they'd start to glow after a while.. lol) or what if you blew marijuana smoke into the terrarium? Or certain kinds of music. I always wonderd if the mushrooms picked up on certain tones and enjoyed different kinds of music.. lol.. these are just small examples of the wierd shit that flows through my head.. if anyone would like to justify my response with something similar then it would be greatly appreciated

Optikal_Trip, everyday when I check my terrarium I turn on some Slayer as loud as my stereo will go. I don't know why I do this. I hope they like it. They better not be panzy mushrooms that like Backstreet Boys and I'm pissing them off by letting them listen to death metal... Anyway, it doesn't hurt to try things out. Try using a blacklight and see if it works, it can't hurt.

So I know their suppose to get light and all that stuff but when roadkill said don't keep in total dardness does that mean even while colinizing or just while growing? Why not in total darkness?

You want total darkness while colonizing and a little light when its time to fruit....light tells the mycelium to start producing fruit and then tells the shrooms which way to grow. bassplayer74

i can't remember exact spectral pref but daylight flourecents, specifically a 6500K color temperature bulb is s'pos to be best. Second best is a cool white. Well the best is the sun but...
