Wet or dry? Amount?

A friend and I are going to try some fresh ecuadorian mushrooms when I harvest them...I was wondering, is it worth drying them out if I'm going to eat them very shortly? Is there some significant difference in taste and/or potency between wet and dry shrooms?

Also, how much should I eat of these ecuadorians? What amount of shrooms, or what amount of grams of shrooms? We're beginners, I don't want to scare myself, but I want a somewhat-strong trip. Not a weak one, that's for sure. Thanks.

they will taste pretty nasty when fresh, although will be slightly more potent. for a good trip, try 18-20g fresh or 2 grams dried.

I've got to flat out argue with you on that one. Fresh is definetly the way to go. I too useto find shrooms rather gross when i first started but i found that fresh are much better. It can depend on growing conditions growing mediums and strains can also make a difference though. Fresh mushrooms are much easier to chew up completely. Dried mushrooms have to be continually chewed and pieces can get stuck in your teeeth leaving a not so good treat for later.

I like to take fresh mushrooms and chop them into small pieces, then I can just pop a handful in my mouth and swallow them with a mouthful of OJ. You can hardly taste them and in my experience they kick in faster.

I go for dry, then I put it in the coffee grinder, this way I can measure exactly, Take a spoon full at a time and mix it with a lot of saliva, at the same time closing my nose, (so I wont have to taste them) fallowed by some OJ.

For fresh fruit, I just toss them in the blender with a cup of OJ and let it whirl for a few seconds. You end up with a 'creamy' mushroom tasting OJ drink. It isn't going to win any awards at the county fair, but it isn't horrid either. Besides, taste is all in the mind anyway.
