One of my secrets is out.  I created the "Lurkerman" account so that I could lurk and not post.  My reasoning was that if I didn't post I wouldn't feel as involved.  If I wasn't as involved then I wouldn't feel the need to log on so much.  It is one of the many tricks that I have used in an attempt to not log onto the Shroomery as much.  Another of my tricks was canceling my internet service (I just found an open wireless network with my wireless card). 

I'm pathetic.  :frown:

There's probably some truth to that. I definately do have bouts of social anxiety. It's often easier to sit at home and type on the computer than it is to deal with people. But, even when I am out and having a great time...I still think about this site. Somehow this site has become imprinted upon my brain like meth becomes imprinted upon the brain of a tweaker.

Dude, once you're in you can't get out. I dumped internet in the same attempt. I found myself traveling to work to use the computer there. Then I got a USB wireless adapter from Veritas. Now I never leave the computer. I pee in a jug and put the computer at the end of the bed. I know I could quit anytime though. I just don't want to right this minute. :mushroom2:

Sounds like the same thing we all do, mentally picturing a more comfortable situation when we are in an uncomfortable one, like imagining everyone in their underwear when you have to give a public speeach, etc...

Admittedly, I am uncomfortable in a lot of social situations. But, even when I am out and about and things are clicking perfectly (I'm out at the bar having fun and talking to women for example) I still obsess about this site.

I appreciate your input. It definately rings true and has merit. But, I think it goes deeper than that.

Seriously, don't be hard on yourself. Try noticing how you feel and what you are thinking just before you feel compelled to get back here. I think you will find your answers there.

I dont get on here as often, I just find other sites and do other things other then the internet. Plus I hang out with friends on my days off.
I am still around, but not as often.  :grin:

For the last several years I have probably logged onto this site at least five times a day (and that is a light day).  Even when my days were full with activities I still managed to find a way to log in.  I did manage recently to not post for about a month and I curtailed my computer usage.  This genuinely helped me.  I was out and about in the real world doing more stuff.  But, inevitably I started to slide back into the addiction.  I started logging on a lot and posting again.  Before you know it I was spending tons of time on here again.

As I am doing things (sitting in school, out with friends, etc..) I am thinking about this site.  I think stuff like, "Man...I really want to start a post about this", "I wonder if OneMoreRobot posted another short story", or "I wonder if anybody has posted new pics in the Pubbers picture thread".

At 5pm today I was supposed to go see my friend's band play.  It was a really important show and it seemed important to him.  Instead of going I puttered around the house and lurked on the Shroomery.  Also, my last girlfriend dumped me because of this site.  I would sit on the computer instead of paying attention to her.  This damn site interferes with my life and it causes me to ignore the people I know.  Imagine if I could take the time I spent on the Shroomery and have been studying or something?  I would be a fuckin doctor.

I've met a lot of nice people because of this site.  I have yet to meet an asshole Shroomerite.  I like you guys a lot (:heart:).  But, I have a serious problem.  I have never experienced an addiction like this before.


P.S.  I hope that OTD'ers make fun of me for this post.  :smirk:

yeah, i feel much like randle does!
my trickery is holding back on post whoring and simply lurking... i only post if i have something important to say or if i'm in that weird shroomery mood (feeling the love and wanting to take part, ya'll know it!)

thing is, it's STILL your choice!
as is anything alse in yr life, it's YOUR choice every time you NOT make a choice... you can choose to be "idle" and not interact with anything but your computer/via the computer or (finish reading this) turn it off and find out what can happen when you're NOT biding your time here...

i've often found my self thinking the same thoughts when i was out and about, "the guys in the pub would love this..." but really if there wasn't the shroomery it would have been someone/something alse :shrug:
you can call it yr girl friend, god or a best friend but your always looking on the outside to make meaning for what's going on inside, but that's a choice too... and i choose to view it as something i do for my self. i write these thoughts so i can somehow velidate them for my self :tongue:

or you can stand up for your self and realize that you don't need anything like that to make meaning (cuz really life doesn't have much meaning anyway, it's only what we make of it right?) and simply do what's best for randle, which i assume you deserve much more then to sit home all the time hiding from whatever is possible "out there"

shit i have the same problame, i don't see much point doing stuff people take for granted (work for example :smirk:) but i've decided to do it anyway since clearly not doing these stuff made me misrable and empty :shrug:

find some balance, shroomery isn't all that bad :grin:
