Shroomery Direct Connect Hub

We had one before but it died or something. So i've taken the liberty of setting up a DC hub @ jap.kicks-ass.net.

You can get the Direct Connect software at http://www.neo-modus.com

To join the Direct Connect hub, you need to share at least 2 GB of mp3s, movies or software. Full, high quality MP3 albums are preferred. If you'd like to register your nick, drop me a PM with a username & password.

It's private P2P file sharing. Right now we have about 5 users with 100 GB data total. We're looking for music mostly, but movies and software are OK too.

I think that this hub could really become something if enough shroomerites were interested. I know that a lot of people here must have great taste in music, let's put our resources together so we can all benefit!

I think this is an excellent idea, I'm already part of a kick ass hub for mostly Trance music, but I think this could be a really cool thing for this community being that everyone has such diverse tastes.

Maybe the admins can do an announcement thingy for this idea since I bet if more people see this that way more people would join.

I agree 100%. If 1% of the shroomerites that use this board use the DC hub, then we'd have a few terabytes of quality data. Personally I'm on the hub because I want to explore new types of music, but sharing of movies, books, audio tapes and software is also encouraged.

This is for mac? I may put this on my G4 at school, I have just over 2 gigs of mp3's. One thing though, will this thing crash my computer repeatedly like limewire does? I'm so tired of all the lockups that I don't even use limewire anymore.

EDIT: I see there is a windows version too. Nevermind.

Um, it's pretty simple. All you need to do is go to http://www.neo-modus.com

Download the windows client (unless you have a mac or something)

Click connect after you've installed the program

Type in jap.kicks-ass.net

Share your files

boom, you're done.

I downloaded it
and installed it

but my internet connection likes to be very very choppy.

I was uploading at under 1k, and it was taking forever to even download a file list.

So I closed it.

Maybe I'll try later.

im in check yur pms, i got hella eminem and porn to share, it sucks we have to upload the stuff we share, they should make it so we can just put it in "ou shared folder" like kazaa

Is the hub up? I just installed this at work and am getting " Disconnected From Hub ". I'm using passive mode because I'm at work.

The hub is running on a P233 with 64 MB of RAM, Windows 2000 Server. Not the stablest of platforms. In addition, the software seems to have a bug that causes the hub to disappear from the screen, but continue to run in the background, making config changes (like adding users) impossible while the service is running. So, from time to time, the hub will be down, but it should be up 98% of the time. If I take the server offline for maintainance I will try to give everyone a few hours to finish their downloads.

So whats the upload limit?
I dont quite get the upload thing, am I downloading from the hub or from another person like a true P2P..
This sounds alot more like a fancy FTP server thing, which is pretty damn cool and I have lots to share..

I havnt downloaded the progie yet but if I can upload and download direct from the hub and its got room for all my stuff I will join.

The hub creates a true p2p environment for users to share files. You don't have to upload files to download files from a user, just share files to be uploaded.

The client software will create a list, this list can be downloaded by other users (and vice versa). Once you have the list, you can download whatever they have shared.

My ftp server is also running on the D/C server @ port 21. mp3:mp3

The advantage of using direct connect for p2p is that it's possible to obtain complete albums instead a bunch of mismatched files (as with kazaa).
