Shroomery Addicts Anonymous
    #6247929 -

I'm going to be completely honest here.  I'm hooked on this site....and not in a good way.  Anybody with over 10,000 posts is probably in the same boat as me (you know who you are).

For the last several years I have probably logged onto this site at least five times a day (and that is a light day).  Even when my days were full with activities I still managed to find a way to log in.  I did manage recently to not post for about a month and I curtailed my computer usage.  This genuinely helped me.  I was out and about in the real world doing more stuff.  But, inevitably I started to slide back into the addiction.  I started logging on a lot and posting again.  Before you know it I was spending tons of time on here again.

As I am doing things (sitting in school, out with friends, etc..) I am thinking about this site.  I think stuff like, "Man...I really want to start a post about this", "I wonder if OneMoreRobot posted another short story", or "I wonder if anybody has posted new pics in the Pubbers picture thread".

At 5pm today I was supposed to go see my friend's band play.  It was a really important show and it seemed important to him.  Instead of going I puttered around the house and lurked on the Shroomery.  Also, my last girlfriend dumped me because of this site.  I would sit on the computer instead of paying attention to her.  This damn site interferes with my life and it causes me to ignore the people I know.  Imagine if I could take the time I spent on the Shroomery and have been studying or something?  I would be a fuckin doctor.

I've met a lot of nice people because of this site.  I have yet to meet an asshole Shroomerite.  I like you guys a lot ().  But, I have a serious problem.  I have never experienced an addiction like this before.

P.S.  I hope that OTD'ers make fun of me for this post.  :smirk:

That's how it is for me often :yesnod:

Sometimes I spend ridiculous amounts of time on here. I love it though.

It just got like this in the past 3 years, before that I would only come on once in a while and not for very long at one time.

i just always keep a mozilla tab open with the shroomery open. when i wake up in the morning before i take a shower and eat breakfast(like right now) i kick around on here for a little while, and then throughout the day when i go on my computer i'll click the shroomery tab and see whats goin on. i dont go on my computer to go on the shroomery usually, unless i made a thread i want to see the responses in. i just go on when i'm already on my computer. it is a little addicting though

being on this site constantly isnt always a bad thing, i sometimes use it to motivate myself. Often times ill post up about some crazy scheeme, and all of you pubbers give me alot of confidence and positive energy   sometimes when im stuck, ill look back on this or that post and get my ass back in gear.

I dont really think that the problem is the shroomery itself. its probably your social anxiety, i mean, sure you want to stay home where its confortable, and youre comfortable on the shroomery. If you werent posting here, id be willing to bet that you would still be missing your friends band, or loosing your girlfriend, doing somthing else that didnt involve uncomfortable human interaction.

I hope that didnt come off as an insult, but i think that the shroomery is just the surface of the issue here.

What do you think randal?

there is this book called the 7 habbits of highly effective people, it was drilled into my head while i was in mexico *shudder*
but one thing from that book that i have seen hold true, is about peoples comfort zones.

We all like it at home, on here, wherever, as long as its safe and comfortable, but really we wont grow as people while we arent challenging ourselves and pushing our boundaries. All in all, the more you wander out of your comfort zone, the more you better yourself. From what i see (in my own life, and those of many people around me), you beome alot more happy with yourself, and your life when this happens.

And also it saddens me to say that i know alot of people that dont get outside that comfort zone and really arent happy
