Help me Identify these mushrooms
    #6238759 -

I started these jars so long ago, I forget what strain they are. Please help me Identify these, I think they are Z-strain, but please confirm this. Also, what can I do with these cakes to get better yields, one is barely growing anything, and only on the bottom. I have now picked 8 mushrooms from the other cake, so I am happy with this being now my first successful fruit.

Man, from the looks of them they could be anything. The only way you'd be able to get close to a definitive answer would be by whippin' out the old microscope. Sorry...

Both of these cakes are about the same age, and were incubated too long, the one on the left which has a lot of mushroom growth started to fruit in the jar just one or two mushrooms. I put them into the terrarium and about 6 days later the one on the left had pins and 10-11 days in the mushrooms were picked, this is where I am now. The one on the right didn't start to pin until about 8 days in and is now still slower and much fewer pins have formed. Do I dunk these cakes after a flush, when all visible mushrooms have been picked or how can I try and get more than one flush? Also, with just one cake, like the one on the left, what is an expected harvest, in dry weight. Thanks in advance.

how long are the ones on the paper? for the weight though, the only answer is enough. I think it looks good for a birthed cake though.

dry weight for a noob grower on a cake is usually 2-4g dry, from what ive seen. Its best to dunk and roll before the first flush and in between each of them. After you harvest all mushrooms (leave the pins), dunk them for 12hr and then roll in some verm. you should get a much better yield that way

EDIT: my guess is your cake will be about 4-6g dry

The longest one on the paper is about 6-7 inches long. I don't know if I dried them too much or let them grow too long to the point where they released spores, but now the first dried ones look black and very shriveled. I dried the others less to avoid this, I'd rather leave them a little moist than have them look like these ones in the top of the picture. This weighs out to about 9 grams, it is about 15 mushrooms in total now. Please let me know if I have to dry these more or if they're ok like this.

Another question about dunking, do I just soak them in distilled water I assume at room temp, and then while wet roll them in vermiculite and then right into the terrarium? What does this do to the cakes, and how long after that do they continue to pin and flush again. Thanks.

they definitely look like they could be Z strain.  they also could easily pass for B+... and heck, probably a whole bunch of other strains while we're at it.  the only way to know for sure is to keep track from the start... oops, too late for that huh? (even a microscope won't tell you as somebody suggested... the only hi-tech way might be dna sequencing which is way beyond almost everybody's reach)...

Strains are marketing driven, no more. You can't identify strains by looking, even with a microscope. Even the red spored strains show up occasionally regardless of the 'name' on the strain. Certain exceptions exist such as albinos, but remember, every strain out there will throw an albino once in a while. Clone it and you have an albino strain.

there is only like 6 to 8 strains that are easily identified...

shroomery does have a wiki. one of the identifiable strains is PE because it looks like a penis. its best to leave them soaking while in the fridge or in a cooler with ice/cold water. warm stagnant water breeds contams. but yeah other than that you got the idea of dunking and rolling. it rehydrates the cakes and the wet verm holds in water which the mushies love

Thanks for the dunking tip, how about the black really dry mushrooms from the pic with the plastic bag, are those too dry, or should they look like that. Thanks.
