Help Identifying Abhorts.

I have been growing the PF strain using the PF Tek. I have been having trouble identifying abhorts. I dont want to pick a mushie that I think is an abhort that might end up becoming full grown. Exacly how small are abhorts? How "black" do the heads get. When looking at pinheads I have noticed some have a light color cap some have a much darker color. Are the dark ones abhorts? This is what I thought but I think (not positive) some of the ones which started out with dark heads grew to be full sized spiecemen which I have harvested. Please help me out. Thanks.

P.S. In the drying process my container tipped and a lot of dessicant touched my shrooms. Although I immediatly ( 3min after tiping) cleaned them off. Are they still safe to eat? I'm pretty sure they are just checking.

Aborts will have blue or black heads. They also stop growing and wither.
They're still safe to eat.

How big is the average size abhort though.

depends on the strain, and what substrate you use and so forth. i would say around half an inch if that.

Why dont you just leave them where they are . Did they talk about your momma??? They'll still be fine to eat once everything that will grow out , grows out just pick them then . Also they won't like "infect" your cakes with anything either unless you leave them on there forever... peace

The aborts can be of any size, just depends on when the mushroom gets aborted.  I've seen itty bitty ones and some a little less then a half in long and over a quater inch wide.  The little infant bodies with the darker heads are probably aborts.  The cap on an abort will start to wither first then the whole thing will start turning blueish.
