I cut two 4 ft. San Pedros 4 inches above the dirt. I wrapped them in a towl, drove them home. they are currently in the fridge! I want to transplant the top portion... how do i go about doing this? the cacti have been in the fridge for around 30 hours. been too busy to deal with them... am i too late? I have pots ,and cactus potting soil... both stalks are about 3-4 inches thick, and 3ft. long. would i be wrong to cut off the top 6 inches of both, and place them directly into a pot of cactus soil? -seril help help ~!

Update: I made a cut 5 inches from the top of each cacti. the remaining couple feet have cuts on both ends, and will be consumed next weekend ^_^~ the 5 inch "top pieces" are currently wrapped in a towl, and are being stored in a cool, dark closet. i will wait several days, or until the ends of the cacti coderize and shrivle up a tad, they will then be soaked in a rooting solution and inserted 3 inches deep into a pot of cactus soil... how does this sound? information was obtained here: http://users.lycaeum.org/~iamklaus/grow.htm -seril

They should be ok. San Pedro can take some fairly cold temp, but I would not store any cacti in the fridge. Propagation by cutting After cutting, keep the pottion that you want to root out of direct light on a shelf (not refigerated) until a callous forms on the cut end. This can take a couple of weeks. When calloused, plant in damp but well drained soil and put in indirect sunlight and roots should start forming in a couple of weeks. Water every two to three weeks. Once activly growing, the cactus can be moved outside to help optimize growing.

Take your SP out the Fridge, sparing the mescaline is okee but killing your cacti, hmmm. Take a look at http://www.xs4all.nl/~knehnav/sanpedro.htm The loger the cutting is the quicker the rooting goes and the quicker the growth will be in the first year or two... Good luck Meneercactus at www.meneercactus.nl
