San Pedro Experience Using MJ's technique.
    #2811903 - 06/21/04 04:59 AM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Hey all,
Just posting my experience with the San Pedro Cactus and MJ's preparation that he posted. My brother and I split a 5 pound cactus for a total of 2.5 pounds a peice. I know that may sound like a lot, but we are avid psychonauts. Anyway, we did everything exactly to the specs of MJ. We blended and boiled the cactus for about 4 hours in 3 separate pots. (We originally thought there was to be a third person)We then strained and drank slowly.
The trip was definitely there. It took a couple of hours to fully come on. We both had mild 2-D visuals and a good psychedelic feel. This was a great trip, but I thought that it would have been stronger. Especially, considering the dosage that we took. Does anyone know if, we should have boiled it longer?? I know that the possibility of having a weak cactus is there, but this was a large cactus from a reputable person. Anyone have any advice on preparation next time.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not crazy...crazy.

sounds loke your particular pachanoi specimen was particularly weak. these cacti can quite variable in thier potencies and i have heard of some verry weak specimens in my life.

potency is quite often envirnmental. the most well cared for [and heavily watered] Trichs i have grown tend to be the fastest growing. these seem to have lower concentrations of alkaloids. i would imagine watering and growth speed are large parts of alaloid production and retention. good luck next time. if you have none, consider searching for the san pedro "chip" method. i have mentioned it in posts here before. it utilises only the greener [chlrophyll containing] part of the cactus wich seems to be where much of the alkaloids are stored.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Thanks for the info. I think that I will give this a try sometime soon. I'll probably go for the torch this time over the San Pedro. It seems like it might be a little stronger trip.

either your cactus was low in alkaloids, you boiled it too long, or you just didn't have enough. or it could be that you just had to high of an expectation toward the experience. san pedro (and all thrichohcereus cacti) has a very mellow feel to it and is very powerful, but if you're expecting something like 4 hits of acid, you'll be let down. i find that the power of the experience depends a lot on the individual attitude and perspective toward the trip. if you sit there waiting for hallucinations to fly all over the place, then your experience may be lessened. if you sit in a meditive state, swaying through the plains of your soul and mind throughout the first hour or so, you'll find the experience to be very powerful and benificial. i find that dosing alone leads to more of a beautiful experience....i have never had a good mescaline experience while in the presence of others. why? i don't know. possibly, distarction from letting go.

i agree with concretefeet as he states to only consume the dark green flesh, directly under the skin. this is the only area of the cactus that i prepare and consume. it's the only area, I consider important. others, though, consider all areas of the cactus to be beneficial.

sorry to hear that your experience wasn't too fulfilling. hopefully, the next one will be the "ONE."

peace and love

Was the cactus a short fat piece or long and thin? Lots of people say that the long thin ones are often stronger

Please don't get me wrong. I had a wonderful time. It was very, very peaceful and pleasant. I only wish the visuals were a bit stronger and it lasted longer than 8 hours.
The cactus was very large. It was 25 inches in length and about 4 inches in diameter, and weighed around 5 pounds. I'm guessing that I just got a weak specimen. It came from Arizona. Next time, I'll try to get some from out of the States. Thanks for all of the advice.

First off I would like to mentionthat there are approximately 13 species of the San Predro family with mescaline, the primary on beig the pachanoi variety, also sold as Peruvian torch. AMericans very rarely rally knwo what they get dorm SA when they oprdr large amounts of the cacti. The peruvianus has two distinct varieties, one is mutated one which in no way rese3mbles any of the others. IT alledgeldly is as potent as peyote by weight.

Every San Pedro I have ever cooked has been between 400 to 600 milligrams, a very potent dose for most people who never have eaten them.

Anyway, thats the secrt of the dosing is that oe always feels they could have eaten twice what they did.

One problem there is that five to 20 millgrams over the clicical dose of 500 milligrams will cause the walls to brath on you and that is the od level of conscious reality. Beyonfd that initial 500 it can become very scary for most who would attempt. IT .. Watch your icreased doses until you get an understandig of what your mind and body can handle.

Glad yuo enjoyed it. Try cooking them one dose at a time.

Or in two large pots of the same size.

ALso you can add another uart or two fowater after the liquid has boiled down to a pit or to and just let it cook more. Also you really need to milk the juice from the cloth of pulp after the pulp has cooled down.
