Getting Healthy
    #6184819 -

alright so i have a bad back, from 4 years ago. everytime i start to work out it begins to hurt again after the first week of working out. so it just prohibits me from getting bigger. i only weigh 120 lbs. at 19 years of age at the height of 5'8. i need to bulk up. i am going to start my phsyical therapy exercises again to strengthen my back and then i am going to start working out 3x a week. i also need to eat some good healthy foods. what do you guys suggest? what are some things that will make me have some meat on my bones, gain some weight?

any advice/tips or input is appreciated :rasta:.

Lots of fruit (especially bananas), rice, fish (tuna and salmon), meats (chicken, turkey, steak), tomatoes, and recently a few people here have been mentioning oats.

However, you should be eating healthy no matter what, but I advice you to stick to those physical therapy exercises for your back for a while before you start pushing heavy weights. Stick to lighter weights until your back is strong again otherwise you risk some serious problems... Even once you feel condfident to lift heavy weights you should still continue doing the back therapy. Im not sure what foods would be good for cartiladge and all that back stuff, but Im guessing some glucosamine, msm (methylsulfonylmethane), and flaxseed oil would be a good start.

Check out www.bronzebowpublishing.com and www.dragondoor.com

I think you would really benefit from isometric contractions. They do not strain your back because you are simply flexing in order to create tension and build muscle.

Swimming is a good option, too, for the same reason.

Besides that, I suggest that you take it easy and find stuff that works for you.

Oats, baby, oats!

Calorie dense and cheap steel oat GROATS, biyatch.

I eat mine like three times a day, sometimes more. It seems much more logical to me to eat as healthy as possible, and get your extra calories and carbs for bulking off of oats.

If your diet's in check and you're pretty much fine with it, find your maintenence calories and add a few hundred to that. That might mean eating a bowl of oatmeal between a meal or just adding in another meal. Voila. You're bulking, baby.

i'm gong to go stock up on those now. but i already eat those at least everyday, except i never eat oats.

i haven't grown in 4 years. been the same height and weight, yet i eat a lot.

would like to build some muscles, but my back enables me to. what are some good exercises that could build arm muscle while i do my phsyical therapy for my back? maybe i should just focus on my arms
while my back is healing.

Yo, Mush.

Building up your arms, exclusively, doesn't seem like that good of an idea. I strongly suggest that you research iso contractions. Bronzebow is the place to go.

Swimming and stretching and meditation also seem like good ideas.

One important thing that hasn't been mentioned is herbs....they are powerful if used currectly.

The one you need to use is ginger root. Some super markets have it fresh in the produce....try to find it like this.

You can make tea, or eat it raw....peel it first. you really don't need much either just a chunk the size of a quarter chopped fine.

take it 2-3 times a day for a week and I bet you won't have back problems during that time.

Another herb to check out is noni. I talked with this japanese dude who makes sushi, standing up all day, and he said that noni completely cured his stiff back.
