what would you call one of those drums...

the big bass drums that you strap over your shoulders and that rest against your stomach/crotch and you beat them on both sides? Like they'd have in a marching band...is there a name for that particular kind of drum, or drummer? I'm stuck on something I'm writing.

Afraid those are called.... bass drums. Just made for marching.

Unless you are talking about more traditional drums.. there is the Dhol, the Mridang, the Dholak, the Dhak, the Hudka, the Damroo..

Just call it a marching bass drum. I was in a drumline in highschool. That's what we and everyone I played with/against called them.
