Storing mushroom tea?
    #6122011 -

What's everyone's experience with storing mushroom tea? I had some last night and it occurred to me that I would like to have some refrigerated and ready to carry around some day in a Snapple bottle or something.

Keep it nice and air tight, shake the bottle. Then drink.

It will keep very well as long as its clean. Might get rank after about a week or two. As far as I know cold isnt going to fuck with the potency.

Ive never tried it or read about it, but your freezer is also an option.

Could you freeze it to store it for long periods of time?

Can't say I've frozen tea but refrigerated tea lasted a good week with no potency loss.

You mean completely frozen? Like ice brick or in liquid state?
Is it worth to store whole harvest in a bottle?

Old thread, but yeah, frozen solid.  Whole harvest if you haven't got much harvest fits in one bottle.  :scaryshroom::thumbup:

Ok, thanks for answer! What I'm thinking is to make high concentration tea. Like 3gr (dried) for shotglass (30 ml). Since I have no shrooms right now its only theoretical. I'll try to make "juice" like this in a month or so. Two years ago I store shrooms dry and make tea just before consumption with concentration 3g/300ml. Put dry shrooms in glass and pour with boiled water. When temperature is acceptable, drink with shrooms in it. Horrible taste and nausea guaranteed. It was felt like dumbbell in stomach for couple of hours. But this was my very first time I grow shrooms. After 3-4 trips like this I've decided that I can't stand shroom taste anymore and order capsules. Also I was trying ethanol extraction with ratio 1gr per 1ml. It was nice, but I have no access to pure ethanol which I can safely consume.

People often say that p-bin/p-cin degrade in high temperature that's why I avoid to boil or cook shrooms. Recently I've read tea tek (can't find it now) where guy said that thermal p-bin/p-cin degradation is fair only for crystals but not for p-bin/p-cin that in shrooms so according to him you can safely boil them with addition of citric acid. So I'll try this. Hope to find it again.

But I don't feel comfortable about ice. I think temperature around +3C should be enough. What can goes wrong? Temperature is too low for contam to develop, metallic thermo bottle sealing is tight so oxygen shouldn't be a problem.

Ice is fine.  Nothing in the actives changes once you freeze the tea.  Freezers are cheap and capacious.

You can easily make 30ml equate to 30g fresh (or 3gm dried).  With that you get lb ice for lb fresh, etc.

Make tea this way and there are no nausea issues, taste from fresh is not too bad but it's more like, take a chug, take a chaser for the taste...  You can boil them without issues.

Boiling/heating before freezing is essential to denature the enzymes, if you freeze fresh mushrooms(blended or as they are) they will degrade fast when you thaw them to drink.. so yeah make the tea and freeze it and it should be fine.. buy if you put it all in one bottle that means you need to that it every time you want to dose, might not be a good idea

Yeah, use smaller bottles for this, say 4x dose, then you thaw it once, divide in half or thirds and refreeze for next time.  Or if you don't care (I don't) just thaw, measure out what you want, and refreeze.  Thawing compared to boiling is nothing.

How long will tea from fresh last in the fridge? I made 2 batches, froze one batch and the second has been in the fridge for 4 months is a full glass bottle.

I wouldn't store it in the fridge, so I don't know.  Guess you need to try it.
