winter rye...fungicides?(pic)

visited my local feed store a bit ago. they had winter rye. i asked if the lady knew if it was treated. she didn't. so she called her supplier. he said he didnt treat them in any way...though he had no idea how the actual farmers that grew them did or what they used on them. The bag didnt say anything about any pesticides or fungicides. think they are good? any way to tell for sure short of innoculating and waiting?

I prefer organic rye berries, but that should work ok. If fungicides have been used, they only effect spore germination. As long as you inoculate with live mycelium, there won't be a problem. You'll just have to do a test run.

unfortunately spores is what my bud will be using.  it's his first grow.  Should i have him just try 1 jar first and wait for germination?

Also RR think you could take a look at my other post from last night.  Not sure if i have the correct ph balancer for the casing layer.  i'v found your advice/tips are always top notch  :cool:

that lime is not correct at all.

you need lime flour, not pelletized lime.

kk thanks much guys. i'll keep hunting. It says "calcium carbonate equivilent...100" so i figured it was just calcium carbonate.

I've never had a problem with the Winter Rye that I buy from my local Feed Store.

but you never know.
