Mods should have equal priveleges in all section... THIS IS WHY
    #6051136 -

www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6051085

blink informed me that he couldn't do anything about this user except for ban.

i think thats stupid. i think most users assume a mod is a mod, like i did.

then i see blink joking around in this post, and i think wow the mods don't really care do they (not really what i thought, but what someone probably is thinking somewhere)

the people running shroomery probably know better than i do how important it is to keep this place tight as far as the "making sure the no asking for drugs - this is not a drug hookup site" policy is enforced.

why don't you give mods the ability to lock a thread in another forum if no other mods are around. this thread has been up for at least a few hours now during a peak usage time.

why not make me a mod while you're at it.

This situation would be so easily resolved under my suggestion, would it not?

Quote:
1) I didn't read the entire post, just the subject and the first bit. It was in PE so I wasn't in "moderator mode", looking for potential 'offences'

That's fine. Since you missed it, thats an honest mistake, but that's not my point.

Quote:
2) It's not my forum, so why should I be taking care of posts there?

I'm not saying it's your duty to. IT would just be nice, however, if you had the ability to lock the thread in any forum, ex. if you happened to be reading a post with someone asking if anyone could hook them up, like the thread mentioned above.

Is there a logical reason why your priveleges should be limited to your individual section? How would it hurt? It could only help.

Quote:
Can I not post as a normal member because I've got a green name? I'll agree to that after I cash my first paycheque.

Sure you can post as a normal chatter, then you would lock the thread for it being against the rules, like a normal mod. Would that bother you so much? I figured the mods at least want to help the site, there is OBVIOUSLY no paycheck. If its so much of a hassle to pitch in a hand to another mod's forum, perhaps we need more mods.

yeah blink hes not on your case about this, its just obvious that someone needs to be keeping a tab on some forums, especialy PE.
ide be up for being a mod, or having more mods, but simply giving 4 or 5 designated mods access to all forums, and assigning them to look over "their" forum, while still allowing them to catch something in another forum if its not being removed within good time, would take care of many other solutions to it, like making more mods.

dont you get it man

the mods* decided that we had to memorialise 9/11 and remember it and how better to do so then to launch an attack on our own people!

g2_93integra_boy is a puppet created as part of a False Flag operation being carried secretly by the moderators of this site.

Our goal was to create a puppet infestation, and then to have you the user fearing that hookup threads were being allowed and terror to reign!

but alas moderators cannot act outside our respective forums, and thus you would recomend that out powers be expanded so that you can once again feel safe browsing the forums, free of evil doers and terroristic puppets.

And alas we will have our powers expanded, and rule the universe!

It does seem like it could get pretty messy if anyone could lock any thread in any forum.

Kake, I understand the concern. In some cases all of the mods for a given forum might be gone for the night, sleeping, busy with life, or whatever else. Only option that there really is, is to hit notify moderator. Even then it won't help if none of the mods are logged in. This can lead to a hookup thread being out in public sight long enough for a bunch of other people to see it before one of the mods even log in

If the person gets banned, they wont be able to log in at least. If they leave an email address or other contact info, people can get ahold of the user either way.

Each forum has it's own nuances and thus it's own mods.

Can you imagine the shitstorm that would ensue around the mod who locks threads in forums that aren't their primary focus?

SHITSTORM?

Give me a break. You're not cops enforcing laws in another cop's jurisdiction. You're moderators. Nobody expects the world from you, even if you think they do.

Come back to reality look at this objectively. Why would there be a shitstorm? If you can come up with a scenario as to why this would cause a problem, then I might see your point. But right now it's just a "well it would get messy" why would it get messy? I mean, what would make it a "mess" ?

OMG OH NOEEESS BLINK LOCKED A THREAD IN MY FORUM, THE SKY IS FALLING?

There is still no reason mods shouldn't have the ability to lock a drug hookup thread in another person's forum. I don't think they should feel like they have to, just have the ability if they want to (as they should). If I were a mod I would be happy to take a minute to lock a thread in another mod's forum if they weren't around. What's the big deal?

Do you see my point? It seems like you guys might be so comfortable with the way things are that you are putting wild speculation into what might happen if, GOD FORBID, things were changed.

I really don't see one negative outcome.

Blink, I think you're taking this out of context and getting it all wrong.  BTW, I don't even remember having a private irc discussion?

THE POINT is simply this:

A user sees a moderator make a joke or whathaveyou inside a thread that the user is quite aware is either illegal or against site policy.  What happens when that user is a cop?  Will they raise eyebrows?  Will they think this site is being moderated correctly?  NO  - they will make the false assumption, such as I did, that you as a mod should be able to lock the thread, or at least let the user know such activities violate site policy.  SO SORRY I'm making a useful example out of you blink ... but my point has nothing to do with you, it could be any mod outside their particular forum.

It seems like I offended you somehow and I really didn't mean to, I made a mistake in the thread is all, and I apologized.

Back to the issue, I'm sure my logic here is undeniable.  Nothing has been said as to why it would be a BAD idea, other than it somehow would be.  I obviously have no alternate motive in expanding your super elite powers, I'm trying to point out a flaw that might someday bite this place in the ass big time.

And in case other admins are reading this, since the thread is gone, some user basically asked if anyone could send him some acid, and the thread got about 15 replies, none of which said anything about it being against the rules. It just makes it worse when you see a mod post in that thread as well. I know I wasn't the only one scratching my head saying WTF.

blink it doesn't matter what he did or others... these forums get alot of traffic, such a thread can get as many as 150 viwes by then. that's at least 30 unique users right?
most of which are probably users that have no idea how this place runs!
so they might assume it's okey (not everyone reads the rules or gives a damn about sticked guids... some just come to post and get answers and even some just don't give a damn and think it's worth a shot if someone IS selling )

he's got a point and i've often wondered the same untill i found out my self that not every mod has rights to every forum...
