Trying to quit cigarettes.

Well, full day one is upon me of zero nicotine!

I feel oh so irratable and overall would love to kick something very hard.

How long before these feelings subside?

very shortly, dont even think about it, i quit cold turkey and it worked great, i quit smoking a few weeks ago, and its been saving me money, my lungs dont feel as "heavy" as they used to. theres too many good reasons to quit smoking cigarettes.

72 hours, and the nicotine is out of your system completely.  Make it 3 days, you'll feel a calm come over you.  The rest is mental, but sometimes that can be the hardest part.  Good luck, and don't relapse...you'll feel like crap.  Cold turkey is the only way to quit IMO  :smirk:

i tell myself im going to quit after every pack. yet here i am, smoking a cig as i type. i tell myself its not really all that hard... all i got to do is STOP. it really is that simple. yet, for some reason i keep smoking. one of these days i will grow the balls and stop smoking. i know this isnt very reassuring to ya, but if you really want to quit, you will. have faith in yourself.

now, if i can only read those words and live them, id be set  :smirk:

some tips that helped me

stay away from friends who smoke, or at least when they smoke
dont drive in cars w/ people who smoke
after two weeks start riding a bike around, the exercize helps kill any post withdrawls
eat healthier, stay off the soda and alcohol for a bit =)

doing those things always helped me out. ive started smoking again in the past usually because i failed to follow the first and last tip ;p

i quit smoking cigarettes 4 yrs ago but im still inhaling tobacco along with ganja in joints.

i do not feel tempted at all to smoke if im sitting to someone smoking a cigarette but
if that person is toking i can sure tell i go nuts, not just cuz of the ganja but
mostly cuz of the ganja/tobacco mix.

anyway, quitting smoking turned out to be rather easy after all, within a month
its all good and gone :smile: keep it up !

I made it a whole summer (3 years ago) with no kind of nicotine use.
I actually felt so much better. When I got out of bed in the morning, I felt pretty good. No coughing, itchy throat, cotton mouth, etc.

When first quitting, it feels so awkward. In time, it will feel good to know you don't need a smoke. I thought that I'd never know what to do with my hands since I'm such a hyperactive and obsessive person. Ended up working out for the best. I was still fine (better off in fact) when I was not smoking.

I managed to end up smoking again unfortunately. :frown:

Good luck, stay strong! It could be a lot worse - at least it's not a physical opiate addiction (been there).

WrestlerAZ is exactly right. All you have to do is truly want to stop. When that happens, you'll pick a day, and you'll stop. Its been almost a year since I quit cold turkey after smoking for almost 13 years, and I don't miss it one bit.
