what to do here?
    #6010204 -

OK guys I have 6 wbs jars that I have been waiting patently on for about 2 weeks. They are only about 30-40 % colonized. I'm almost certain that it is due to the moisture content. I was hoping that I could get them at least 75% colonized and then do a g2g transfer. I've decided that I've waited long enough.

SO here is the question. I only currently own a total of 12 quart jars. I will be using the most colonized and healthy looking jar for the g2g on the new 6 jars.

What should I do with the rest of this dried out but colonizing grain?? I want to put the other jars to use that way I can get enough to colonize 20 pounds of poo for a nice mono tub.

Anybody got any ideas? I guess just empty out the other jars and use 2 jars for g2g transfer.

Kind of a waste though....

Maybe you should consider buying a few more jars. You can find them used all over the place. Or you chould use pickle or jam jars. You definitely have the right idea to use a G2G tho.

You could do a pretty large mono-tub with 6 quart jars as spawn. I've got poo to colonize just fine with really low spawn ratios before.

Yeah, the only reason I haven't bought more jars is because I'm very broke at the moment. I barely have enough money for gas and to eat. I'm a college student and I'm currently looking for a job. So.. I have no extra cash at all to dedicate towards this hobby. I have all i need.. but can't afford to pick up anything extra at the moment. :frown:

You don't have an empty salsa or pickle jar? Maybe wait until garbage day and go raid a bunch of recycling bins.... where there is a will there is a way.

hmm.. well i have one massive pickle jar. Its like a gallon I think. Is that too big? Shit if I can fit that in my PC that would make life alot easier. Hmm... I may look around. Thanks for the idea.

How hard is it to make spawn bags? And is it cheap?

Don't use such a large jar, you'll have a really hard time getting the moisture content perfect enough to have it go smoothly for the time it would take to fully colonize. G2G transfers are nice if you're in the situation you're in now, but you may want to make a LC in the future so that in a situation like this, you aren't having to do transfers, you'll have 12 colonized jars ready to use in half the time. I hear you about the tight budget, it's hard to ration cash between all the necessities (beer, pot, grub, shroom hobby, gas, and that other thing, oh yea, school). Let us know how it all turns out, best of luck bro, I'm sure it'll all come together.

BTW, is that Kevin Bacon in your avatar? I haven't seen him in anything recently... Last I remember it was Invisible Man or w/e.

I wouldn't consider using anything but a jar that colonized smoothly for a G2G . You just might wind up transfering something you don't want . I use jars that colonize quickly , not jars 30-40% after 2 weeks .

In an ideal situation I would follow Hippiechick's advice. When doing a grain to grain you should transfer jars where the mycelium has proved itself to be strong and fast. But almost all cubie genetics seem to be pretty strong and good fruiters. And with G2G you transfer quite a bit of new mycelium to the jar making new colonization times really short. I don't think I would waste the opportunity and start from scratch.

Inspect your jars closely. Look for any molds or any smell other then WBS and a little hint of mushroom smell possibly. If everything looks OK odds are you will be able to do a clean transfer. I'd feel more confident in using that then an untested LC. Just make sure you only transfer mycelium chunks and no uncolonized grains.

If the gallon jar fits into your PC it should work. Just add a little bit of extra time onto your sterilization times...Like I'd PC that jar for at least two hours.

If you have a LC ready to go, I'd do a grain transfer into the LC.
