Pickling Lime for Casings?
    #1186249 - 01/03/03 03:41 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

i happened to be browsing the canning section of my local supermarket and noticed a bag of "pickling lime". i searched on the internet and it appears that pickling lime is calcium hydroxide, which i believe is the same thing as hydrated lime.

has anyone used pickling lime as a substitute for lime or limestone in your casing?

is it really the same thing as hydrated lime?

has this question been asked recently and so your are about to flame me?

it seems for those who can't find other types of lime, pickling lime from a grocery store might be a quick and easy option...if it is suitable.

Yes.
There is a problem though with using hydrated lime, due to the difficult dosage.
