I simply ask because I am wondering if, in such a situation, I should adopt an impersonal outlook on the matter and allow myself more space in which to experience life, wherever I am forced to live it, or if I should maintain a sense of ideals, refuse to go to war, and have that opportunity to live and experience taken away?

I guess I seek the practical approach to this possible situation...

Having an impersonal attitude towards our conceptual attitudes doesnt mean you throw out the baby with the bath water. It means that by adopting an impersonal attitude we can be more aware and less bound by the habitual functioning of our conditioned minds. Which in turn means that we function more clearly, effeciantly and compassionately in our lives.

Anyways, in regards to our experience itself and how we perceive reality and interpret those perceptions, the impersonal approach is most effective, as it is a matter of realizing reality for what it is, instead of imposing pre-existing definitions over one's realization of reality.

The practical and preferential approach pertains to how we decide how to act and behave within reality, how we wish to influence our experience of reality, and reality itself. :grin: That is the distinction to be made, with no baby being thrown out in its bath water. :smirk:

To begin an inner path one must first assume an impersonal attitude

This is a major challenge for any human. An impersonal attitude toward the self is necessary to see what is happening outside ones conditioning. For myself it has taken a lifetime and much longer then I could ever have imagined when I started out. This "letting go" or surrendering is what I call a warriors challenge and is as difficult as anything I have ever taken on. Now in the latter part of my life I am finally understanding the importance of this preliminary step on the path, the depth that one must go to to really take this attitude and the patience to see it through. Funny you mention this. Veritas and I were discussing this very thing. Her guess is that this will be the state of America withing 10 years and maybe in as little as five if we have another major attack on our soil.

Based on the story of Jesus Christ, if you ask yourself the question: "What would Jesus do?" I am pretty confident he would refuse to kill anyone, and accept the punishment of imprisonment and/or death. Being jailed, or perhaps dying for our sins.
