Just Got A CB

Yep... so what should i know? i was fiddling around with it on the way home, and it wasnt really getting that good of reception... what's the deal?

and what are the good channels

i know i know, google...

Hehe, I had a CB when I was younger... and recently found it again... Zippoz taught me a little bit of trucker slang on our way back from Ohio... I may be a greenhorn, but i know that you're a "Four-wheeler", a cop is a "Bear", and a "Glory Hole"... well... lets not go there...

Do you have an antennae hooked up to the CB? And have you tried playing with the squelch?

DON'T TALK ON CHANNEL '9'... ITS FOR EMERGENCIES

Other than that... i think 21(?) is the channel everyone uses...

yea, i was waiting for zippoz to come out and school me actualy...

yea, i got an antenna... but is there anything special i should know about it? it's just a magnet mount one...

hehe, yeah channel 19 is what the truckers use, but as usual california is weird, so many people south of ..... some city, ...... use channel 17.

the radios are pretty nice, in an average flat land on average cirumastances you can hear about 5 miles.

on active days, where all the truckers are driving, you can get reports of the positions and situations of police upwards of 20 miles ahead.

heres some common terms that youll hear.

Gator- shreaded tire, usually in the road
Granny lane- right lane
Bear- any police officer
bear in a plain wrapper - unmarked police car
Bear with a catcher- cop with a radar gun
bear in the air - rare, but indicates police checking speeds from helicopter and or airlpane

plus there are a bunch of 10 codes, such as...

10-4 copy
10-33 accident
and so on, im sure that you can google those as i dont really know them.

Truckers refer to them selves as "driver"
cars and light duty trucks are refered to as "4-wheelers"

anything else you want to know?

thanks, that pretty much sums it up...

but i do want to know what i need to hook up the PA... is it just a speaker? or do i need some sort of amplification? how does that work... i think that would be the cooler of the two features...

i wish i had a pa function, thats more popular with the Cobra series of radios. i would say hook up a speaker and see how loud you can make it, if it aint loud enough, get an amp and some more speakers :smile:
