7.1 channel WIRELESS speakers? Do they exist?

So where are the tech heads? I did a couple searches and found nothing. Do they even have this technology yet? I want 7.1 WIRELESS sound!

For most people, 7.1 is overkill.

You'll only get 7.1 sound with an 8-speaker setup. 

Even then, I don't think many movies are actually encoded in 7.1 (not sure about other media).

In my personal experience, you need a pretty huge room to notice the separation and subtleties of 7.1.  It's pointless for a bedroom IMO.

I'm not sure about wireless speakers, but most 7.1 systems are higher-end, and I'd wonder how they magically send that much juice wirelessly.  My suggestion would be to go 5.1 and get a carpet to lay the wiring under. 

The second alternative is wiring in the walls, or through the ceiling or floor.

The difference is pretty noticeable between 7.1 and 5.1; enough to justify spending an extra 500$ or so? Probably not for most. 7.1 is technically the industry standard - there are more games and movies coded to 7.1 than you would likely think (almost all theaters are 7.1 no?)

Gotcha, i just was thinking about this while high the other nite. We have a sweet 5.1 system, but our new HDTV has wayyy better sound!

Yes, because our surround system has short wires, so the speakers arent very far apart. Its 140 watt total. Our TV is 140 watts, yet it sounds tremendously better. We've had the TV for 5ish months, and purposely havent used the sound, to make the TV last better. We were messing with setting a couple weeks ago, and the sound is tremendously better, i can't explain why?

Interesting - It could do a lot with the shape of your room, most TV's are optimized to sound real good in a rectangular/square rooms.. sometimes with speakers its the opposite and you end up with a lot of phase cancellation, standing waves, and other nasty shiiit with that shape of room. Maybe the speakers are just in a bad place :tongue2: TV's generally seem to be inferior to a good sound system.

You can use any speaker you like for 7.1 sound.  You just want the speakers to match, so you have to buy 3 pairs of them (plus a center channel speaker and a sub).  I don't know much about wireless speakers, but the only thing I would worry about is interference if they use the same frequency to transmit the signals...
