likely the last match he'll ever play
double overtime
FINAL of the world cup
he's one of the better PK shooters
he smashes his bald noggin into a guy's sternum
celebrity sightings: henry rollins or macguiver is the ref, and moby is playing goal for France

In the other thread I posted this "No. He is gone. And I know what he was doing. He was trying to get the guy to retaliate while the ref was watching. Smart, but cuntish. And he got caught. I told my daughter at the end of 90 that I'd be surprised if Ribery and Henry finished the OT. I was right. Now the dumb fucks don't have their PK specialist either. And their keeper is highly questionable. Should be free pizza everywhere!!!!!!!"

That was pretty fucked up.. it looked like they were talking shit or something and he just goes and blatantly head butts him.
I didn't think they were going to call him on it, it looked like none of the officials saw it... maybe they saw a replay or something on the big screen even though I don't think they are allowed to look at it.

lame. no italians are after zidane. ITA won. largely, some might say, thanks to him. if anything, they really will send him a free pizza, with a note that says 'merci!', or 'grazie tanto!'.
weird. my friends had built up this mythic atmosphere, with zidane as the soccer god of the moment, with nothing to stop the french from taking their title. really, all that is what i wanted for figo, in his final showing, but portugal couldn't step up to the plate.
then zidane, who, before, might have been looked to as a model player, an example of poise and control, makes a fateful lapse in judgement.
would anythign have been different? did they really miss him in the PK's? would trezeguet not have gotten a look, or, had he anyway, would he have made it instead? i don't think anyone can say.
arriba italia.

I really think Zidane was trying to draw a retaliation penalty. In re the penalty kick situation, it couldn't have helped that their penalty kick specialist was out. Of the big three frogs Henry and Ribery were both completely out of gas and I think Zidane was too. Not because they weren't fit but because they gave everything for too long. Man of the match was, in my eyes, Ribery, with a close second to Henry

While completely wrong from a sporting point of view, and incredibly stupid besides, I must say that is one of the finest examples of a head-butt I've ever seen.
I mean, shit. He nearly broke the guys sternum!

What the fuck are you talking about? Put in jail?
I feel for Zidane. Obviously that Italian player had to resort to being a racist and the unfortunate consequence was Zidane's head in his chest. Guess that's what happens when you're obviously the weaker team on the pitch: you start running your mouth.
But hey, looking back, I commend Zidane for having the marbles to do what I've been fantasizing about doing to an Italian player throughout this entire tournament ... giving one of them a "real" reason to fall on the ground for once.
