I find C. Ronaldo to be hilarious and i love how much he pisses people off, especially you Brits. He's my MVP of this world cup.

Yeap, we got to give some more credit to Ecuador. They were a very pleasant surprise in this world cup and played beautifully .

Stephen Colbert said 50% of the World Cup belongs to team USA because the States managed to gear-in a tie game before full time with Italy

I would have felt worse about USA losing to Ghana if we wouldn't have had to go up against brazil right away in the round of 16.
Bloc of death, hopefully we will be luckier at south africa.

I really did feel for the English this World Cup. They wanted it so bad. Maybe next one?
I'm not English so I'm not completely biased when I say that I'm honestly at a loss as to how Portugal could be rated the most entertaining team.
I don't want to upset any Portuguese people here, but I really did not enjoy watching them play. I thought they had very skilled players but were more concerned with using questionable tactics, consistently more so than any other team (perhaps barring the Italians) to gain the advantage.
I believe that if they had put their minds solely on playing properly and not fucking about, with their talent, they may have just made it all the way. Which is what France did in the end.
Man, Australia got ranked 33rd. That's just bizarre. I wonder how the FIFA ranking system actually calculates because, considering the Aussies got into the final 16, I find it extremely perplexing.
And France 4th?

yeah man! that's exactly what i was saying... ecuador is now 28th in the ranking (was 39th before the world cup)... and colombia is 21st (27th before the world cup)... and they didn't even qualify to the world cup... it just doesn't make sense...

They should really make the final 16 a series elimination instead of sudden death elimination.

Anyone remember in 1994 when one of Colombia's national team defensemen was shot to death in Medellin after scoring an own goal eliminating Colombia from the World Cup?

The shooting? It happened in a back alley somewhere in Colombia I think.

On July 2, 1994, Escobar was shot outside a bar in a Medellín suburb. According to Escobar's girlfriend, the killer shouted "¡Gol!" (mimicking play-by-play men in the region for their notorious calls after a goal is scored) for each of the 12 bullets fired.
The murder was widely believed to be a punishment for the own goal.[1] It is not clear whether the murderer acted on his own initiative, or whether he was sent out by one of the gambling syndicates who had bet large amounts of money on Colombia to win the Cup, or at least qualify for the second round.

That's what I heard too. Man that had to suck enough for him to score an own goal during the World Cup, let alone getting shot for it. I also read a BBC announcer got fined once for saying "He ought to be shot for that one" when commentating on an own goal in a game a few years later.
