I'm not sure what to think about this...I mean I'm sick of crying all the time and having anxiety...but is this going to become something that is going to hurt me more in the long run? I have heard such mixed opinions in my searches on the net. Also I'm not too exciting for these sexual side effects...

My brother was on it for a couple years, he was also taking Lithium for his depression. He had a change of scenery and ended up stopping cold turkey, he said he felt no side effects except being a bit tired for a while. SSRI are supposed to be one the hardest to ween off of. Good luck and I hope things work out well for you

Antidepressants are very personal in the sense that everyone has a different reaction to them. The only way you'll know if it's for you or not is to try it. Beware, though, many SSRIs are HARD to quit cold turkey. When I took myself off Zoloft, I would often experience brief periods of intense dizziness and the electric "shocks" that you've probably read about on erowid. Turns out the dizziness is from when my blood pressure drops to an unhealthy level.... a million times a day. Now I'm off Zoloft and actually as happy as ever.

It sounds like you are one of the people who will actually benefit from anti-depressants. But remember: anti-depressants to not cure, they only allow you to stabilize while you work on your emotional issues through therapy. Don't let the doctors try to make the drugs your primary treatment!
Anti-depressants are like a crutch for you to use while you heal. Eventually you must discard your crutch or else be permanently disabled and totally dependent on it.
but personally i don't have any experience with Effexor, nor do I know anyone who was perscribed it.
