My Wakarusa/ Bonnaroo Review
    #5778096 - 06/21/06 08:50 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Wakarusa:

I have to say that this was musically some of the best concert experience i've had. Most of the people I saw was for the first time so naturally iw ould be blown away by a lot of them.

Flaming Lips was probably the highlight, but Les Claypool with Buckethead coming out on stage was pretty amazing as well. Keller Williams solo and with The Keels were great, Bird Song blew me away. I chekced out some New Monsoon which was also great cause they ended with Fearless. Disco Biscuits and Lotus were fabulous. Andrew Bird was nice. HurraTorpedo was probably one of the most entertaining things i've seen.

So yea the music was great, but everything else about it was lame. There were cops driving by our campsite every half hour/hour. I felt like iwas on a colelge campus hiding out. My friend got busted with 10g's of headies and if they found his molecule he would've been thrown in jail. All the bunk drugs really brought us down. The vibe not only sucked as well as non existent. All in all it's not worth the 20+ hour drive.

Bonnaroo:

Bonnaroo was fantastic. The music was great despite the fact that oysterhead let me down. I was literally left speachless by Radiohed, Phil Lesh, Disco Biscuits, Tom Petty and Beck. Those were the highlights for me. The SUperjam was ok. I saw moe. for the first time and thgouth ti was pretty good.

Aside from the music i met some great shroomerites. I met Blissedout Danksis and their gorgeous son Elijah, Newway2sayhurray Robert and yoshie. It was really awesome meeting you guys and i truely hope i see you again in the future. that was definitely a highlight and one of the best days i had at bonnaroo. I met a couple of others who i can't seem to remember but unfortunatly didn't get to spend as much time with the rest as i would've licked at all. Maybe next time.

The over all vibe at Bonnaroo was great. by the second or third day i couldn't imagine not starting my summer with such a great festival. The mushroom fountain and the firefly garden and the fire sculptures and the sheer beauty of 90,000 people all together was quite overwhelming. No cops, no bunk drugs, just easy riding and good times.

What did y'all think?

Yeah...I can personally attest to the fact that there was ALOT of bunk stuff. I've never bought fake acid in my life, but some douche sold me fake blotter before Radiohead and fucked up my night.

Anyways, I still had a blast and I thought the Oysterhead show was bad ass, especially considering it was their first one back since 2002. I've seen Trey and Les tons of times so I knew what to expect from them, but Stewart Copeland blew my mind! He just stole the show in my opinion.

I think your problem is you were expecting something. I always have the best times when I leave my expectations at home. Someone else in the thread said they were awesome so who knows I guess. It's cool you were safe and had a good time though. It would probably have been alot cooler if Primus played instead of OysterHead. I think their holding off for a year or or so to headline Bonnaroo.

Well i was really impressed with Les Claypool's and Copeland's performance, but the sound at the show i felt was lacking as well. There were a lot of times when i couldn't even hear claypool or his bass. Trey was really sloppy and i could hear that the most. i mean there were definitely point where i was like "ooo, coool. ooo now trey is playing well." but for how great the three of them are it didn't match up. it felt like they didn't practice much. i dunno. it was too choppy for me.

Hey ANI!!! I thought about you guys a few times over the weekend, but never ran into you, again. It made me a sad panda. You need to send us some pics of what you took! I got alot, but I think the quality of the pics will be better with your camera. Here's one for the books.

I have 4 pages worth on my photobucket, but I'm too tired to upload them, right now.

Yea i was thinking about you guys over the weekend too. I walked by the RV during Tom Petty and no one was there, i walked by a couple of times through out the weekend and no one was there.

Like i said, meeting you guys was one of the biggest highlights of the trip. I was sad that we didn't get to spend more time together but i really hope i get to see you all again.

About the pics, yea you'd think mis Photo major here would've done a good job. Some of them came out a little too dark, certainly darker than the digi pic you just put up. In any case i did get some adorable, precious shots and as soo as i can get to a scanner to scan those pics in i'll be sure to send them to you.

Awesome! Yeah, we went and walked around during Tom Petty. We found some nice pretties for Danksis.:smirk: I really wish we would have hung out more, though. You and your friend were some of the coolest people that I got to meet and hang with the whole weekend. I'll see if I can talk DS into coming up to NYC sometime. Anyway, tell Danny I said wassup when you see him, will ya?

ha ha that always sets alarm bells off when I hear that.  Once, at an outdoor rave, a couple of hooded X dealer types tried to sell me some doses.  "Whats the print?"  "Grateful Deads bro!"  "Can I see them?"

The guy pulled out an unperforated strip of printer paper with

:gd_icon: :gd_icon: :gd_icon: :gd_icon: :gd_icon:

printed on a low-ink, budget printer.

And he wanted 50 for the 5 strip!

yeah, i'm sure that's it. It was MY fault that most of the kids there were claiming to be "kind" and "family", and slinging bunk shit to everyone they came across. Just walking tent to tent, saying he had the best stuff... and a Dead print at that (it was Steal Your Face) well needless to say, after 2 hours my face was fine, and i realized only my money was stolen. Two other shady fucks bunked me and my girlfriend out the next day as well, once for paper, once for liquid. Then she bought us a 1/4 of shrooms, and from the looks of the guy it was to be one of the best trips ever, with Radiohead at the wheel. guess what? The asshole punk was selling shiitakes as fast as he could get rid of them. Don't get me wrong, I really don't care about getting bunked every now and then, it's part of the game. Shit happens. And i understand these kids justifications for doing it. But I didn't have the cash to get bunked and try again every time. After you've been bunked, and realize it, already more than ready to be tripping at that point, someone else offers you something, you take it. Bunk. that was what roo was last year. Bunk. at least the vibe was. I didn't see many people around where i was camping getting anything real. The kid that sold me the dead print actually came back the next day trying to sell us some more. It ended up that i was eating something to trip before each of the shows that I wanted to trip through, but didn't get to trip at all while at roo.

So, to answer your question, no it wasn't that i wasn't grateful enough. I am grateful every day that I wake up. And I know that i give out very little bad karma. I live by the golden rule. I treat people fairly and with respect NO MATTER WHAT. Those people are just shady bastards feeding financially off of the kindness of others. If the others are like me, they never say anything, don't go looking for the guy, but you remember him. When he came back the second time, I asked if it was the same as what he had the day before, he said yeah, it was that fire GD print, i just said no thanks.

Well, I'm sorry, but you should know what psychedelic shrooms look like, before buying them from some random person that you don't know. I'm sorry to hear of your bad luck, but I only heard of people getting bunk once and that was a dumbass friend of mine that just buys shit from anybody. I'm not condoning the actions of these shady fucks, but you should be informed before getting into these situations. If it's doses and you are buying a large quantity, the guy should be willing to let you walk around with him/her until you can feel that the shit is real. I always test my doses with the person present if I don't know him/her. That's only if I am buying 10 or more, though. With mushies, you should always know what they are supposed to look like. Otherwise you could get really sick, or worse. All I'm saying is you are dealing in the black market. Don't be surprised when you run into shady people. They are illegally selling controlled substances in some field, or lot. They may or may not be shady while doing so. Be smart. Get informed, or only deal with people you know.

Yeah solid advice. I can usually tell if someone is trying to sell bunk just by the general "aura" or vibes they are giving off. Look into their eyes. Otherwise, yeah.. you are from the SHROOMERY, there is no way you should be mistaking shiitakes for psilocybes. I don't even know what to tell you there.. use common sense next time?
And yeah Blissed is right about walking around with a person for a "test" dose. People who are selling real shit will almost never have a problem with you testing shit out first before you get more. The people that make some excuse and say uhh, I have someplace to be, do you want them or not? Are most likely trying to pull a fast one on you. Don't buy from random people you haven't ever seen before on the lot, or if you must.. test it first, then get back to them. Best way to find real shit is to find the guy that is spun out of his mind, and ask where he got his dose from.

:yesnod: That is if he can function properly enough to not lead you on a wild goose chase.

We really want to go to Allgood, but we are going to have to see, because we are going to Red Rocks in September and money's been extremely tight, lately. It's the 1st time in my life that I don't have any money saved for the summer festivities. My rent is hurting me bad! $825 a month is harsh, but we have a great house for Elijah to play in. We may have to move somewhere cheaper, though. I am just struggling from  month to month and it really sucks ass!

like I said, my girlfriend bought the shrooms, so i didn't see them until after. But to mine and her defense, they were dry, shriveled mushrooms. I watch cubensis grow ALL the time. I thought they looked "off". Took a bite and mmmmmmmm.... tastes like shitake. I'm not trying to say everyone at bonnaroo is a shady bastard selling bunk shit. I saw nothing bunk at bonnaroo 05. but if you believe there is no bunk at bonnaroo like i did in 06, watch out. There are many great people at bonnaroo making an honest living, and many who aren't. and as for karma, those of you acting like only a complete idiot (which i am sure that i am not) could get bunked, mushrooms or otherwise, she will probably show you soon that anyone can get bunked. unless you aren't trying to buy anything.

what was the print?

I'm not really sure as I didn't get a very good look at it.  I actually still have one of the hits...heh.  The guy said it was a Grateful Dead print, but who knows.

I know what you are talking about. I bought a 10 strip of these and wanted more. I know what you are talking about though. It wasn't a clear shot but these said it was a jerry garcia collage type print...That was the best doses I bought. My friend bought purple jellies which were bunk. I bought some very thick white unperf stuff that was good but didn't last very long at all maybe 6 hours peak then came down fairly quick. I actually didn't bring any doses home like a planned but managed to get some white unperf after I got home that was amazingly pure...i was blown away. apparently it came from 10kl last year.

yeah, Cypress rocked. We were soooo high, mostly from the cloud of smoke that hung overhead through the entire show.

Yeah, I got some damn good video of the last 4 songs of the Cypress Hill show. I ran over from taping the Les Claypool's Fancy Band show to get the end. For some reason, Wolf Camera didn't include the CH footage in my dvds. I plan on getting them to correct that mistake.
