Bonnaroo 2005

Hey I just got an e-mail with the dates for next summer's Bonnaroo!! It's June 10-12, who's gonna be there???? I know I am, I had a FUCKING BLAST last year. It's ridiculously huge, but you will never see so many good bands in one place ever again in your life. I hope some of you will join me for a little dancing, and maybe some Hopefully it doesn't get less cool, as these things often do..I can look past a little commercialism as long as the lineup kicks as much ass as it did last summer.

Not having the Bonnaroo festival next year was being contemplated by Coffee Co. authorities. Fortunately, the Bonnaroo representitives convinced them otherwise. You can read about it here.

Yeah, please, nobody do anything stupid like die. I was sad to hear about that, but shit is going to happen when you've got the insane amount of drugs mixed with 100 degree Tennessee heat and humidity. I hope it doesn't affect the relaxed security of past years. I was really pretty amazed at how responsible the vast majority of people were...just goes to show that when you turn hippies loose on a farm with music and drugs, they handle it pretty well. There were of course some exceptions, but for 90,000 people..shit, I didn't see one fight. At least its not like ozzfest or woodstock 99.

Hells YEAH! I'm coming with my merry group of potheads. 'Roo '04 was way too good to just not go in '05. Can't WAIT! Shroomery members need to unite as one at Centeroo at least one of the days and have a hardcore smokedown. If you see a flag that says RBT, that's us. The Rochester Bubbler Tokers.

Yes, yes, us shroomerites will have to represent if we can pull ourselves together long enough to look a clock and try to remember when and where we said we'd meet...that's a pretty big IF, but we'll try

tiuckets were $167 last year, 180 with the fees and shipping...a bit pricey, but well worth it. I guess when you consider Woodstock was $18, and you take inflation into account, 200 bucks is about right

Alright well after scouring google the jury is still out.. I heard things from both sides of the spectrum, those who insisted clear channel now owns bonnaroo and people like this:
Quote:
Completely untrue about Clear Channel and MTV buying it. Superfly and AC Entertainment still very much own and run the entire operations. If you don't beleive me, you can look at the Broo site. Don't you think if Clear Channel or MTV owned it they would be plastered everywhere. Its not true guys, trust.
The Bonnaroo 2005 website isn't up yet, so we'll have to wait and see. At this point it's all rumor and hearsay.

I went in this past summer and had a time (How good was that lightning show before Dead, I was all like if this is armegeddon, then who better to be playing the soundtrack). I am wishing that Panic will come back in 05.. I need a fix, really really bad.
B-roo trip Hint Map... very important... find a map.. you will get lost.. the campsites are BIG... once you find a map you must then figure out the direction to go, at night it can be hard to tell, listen to the interstate and remember what side of it you are on.. somehow make a rule and use the map legend to figure out the distance to you tent. do not listen to the people on horses, they will point you into the woods.

yeah man, the map saved me many times. luckily, our tent was right by one of the "roads", so i just had to follow the right ones and i couldn't really get lost. and you're not kidding about that lightning show before the dead!! and even during their first set, it was amazing. the storm moved off and stars started appearing above the stage, but you could still see the lightning off in the distance..i remember being in complete awe of such a beautiful situation, all i could keep saying to myself was "this is too good to be happening!". and of course i was peakin on 4 grams at the time as well what a good time...i'm with you on hoping panic comes back this summer. i have a feeling that they will.

"where you at man" "Um fourth and something, check camp pepples" "dude.. i dont know" "look at the silo" "Dude, like ive been following this peice of string for hours, all I see is port-Os" "just look for the 3 toed sloth, im there" "whatever dude, Im mush" "Ill have you a grilled cheese when you make it buddy" "sweet"

I've gone to bonnaroo the last 2 years, and in my opinion, getting lost and meeting random people while trying to find your tent on all kinda of drugs is one of the funnest parts of the experience. One tip to anyone who hasn't gone before...the weather is brutal. The heat is so oppressive that even in the shade, drinking water, I felt like I was going to die last year. I had more fun in '03, simply because The Flaming Lips put on an amazing show. I wish they'd come back for '05.

I found that the best thing to do is to bring a huge balloon or flag with you to fly above your campsite. I'd be down to meet up with the shroomerites this year...I've met a bunch of people and always used the swingset as a meeting point.

Yeah.. chase that balloon on a windy day.. its fun LOL I met some cool cats in that lot. I even got to smoke my first opium there. Some random dude walked up to out site one afternoon and needed a seat, which I gladly gave him along with a cool one. In turn he smoked me out with opium. Ive never seen it before honestly. I think thats the most sleep I got the whole trip.. I was up the rest of the time. Any shroomery peeps that would like to chill with me are welcome.. this is like my my most favorite BB ever. Did anyone see the airplane van?

I dont think I saw the airplane van....did you see the tents that were actual tee-pee's? I was camped right by the entrance to centeroo...by the purple arch. Basically when we got there last year, they made us drive waaaay the hell to the far end of the campground...it was about a mile each way just to GET to centeroo...so we grabbed out gear on our backs, and walked to get a better camping spot, closer to the stages. It was like 100 degrees out...and that walk from the car, with tents, coolers, and all of our gear was probably the most miserable I've ever been. But in the end it was so worth it, to be that close to everything. How are people getting there this year? I took abus the first year, and will never again ride a greyhound. We drove last year, it wasnt too bad. About 25 hours each way, after stops for food/gas.

I drove there this past year in a car. We had a caravan of like 6 different cars with 20 or so people.. Im going solo next year, but might bring 1 other pesron with me (small jeep, room for 2 and gear). IF I do this person is riding, not giving directions. The pesron leading the caravan last year forgot to pack up the part of his brain that gave him a sense of direction, not trying to bitch or anything, I just thought that if someone volunteers to lead the way they should know how to get there and handle the responsibility... No-one listens to me when I am right.. it always happens. Its cool thought.. I loved doing it in the road for 12 hours straight.

I just don't see why they would sell out, they can obviously fill to capacity by themselves. And even if CC DID buy them out, what would really change? All of the phish, dead, radiohead ,etc... shows I've went to were CC, didn't really have any problems there. But yeah, I went last year and had a BLAST, and I will be there in 05' for sure!

BIG IDEA. i just talked with hendo and i think that all shroomerites that are interested in hanging at the roo, should all meet up at the wal-mart that is one exit down from the roo exit i will make up a ginormous sign for us all to rally to. i won't recognize you and you won't recognize me because i don't look like a smurf, but maybe i'll have some damn pics by then. it's still 6 months away, but when i get a plan, i usually stick, unless outside factors alter them. peace y'all

dude, i'm sorry to hear that, it really upset me hearing that it happened at such a wonderful festival...didn't mean it to be personal...i read that it was a result of drug use and overheating, is this not accurate? i want everyone to be safe and have a good time, that's all...don't take it the wrong way, i'm not trying to make light of the situation

Oh damn man that is rough. I wasn't at the last bonnaroo but I definitely heard about that. I don't mean to pry and you don't have to answer if you don't want but what really happened? All I heard was they OD, but I figured it had more to do with the heat than anything else. Again sorry for your loss.
Anyways, I will almost definitely be at Bonnaroo 2005...I missed last year but the first two years were a fuckin' blast!

guess he decided to leave it at that..i really would like to know what happened, i'd hate to keep spreading bad info..it wouldn't surprise me if the newspapers blamed drugs regardless of the real cause, but it also wouldn't surprise me if consumption played some sort of role. well, in any case i feel bad. i apologize if i offended you bro! i too have lost a longtime friend, i'm no stranger to that pain.

No one would even BELIEVE me if I attempted to describe my Bonnaroo '04 experience. thePatient & Ares were both there with me.... maybe they can do it justice.
Fan-fucking amazing. I was abducted for about a week or so.

i'm jealous. i saw the dead and was worn out from holding up a tarp the whole show. i missed ALL of those shows!! it sucked! those were like the main things that i wanted to see, too. i gained my 15 minutes of fame so to speak, because i had thi 15'x19' tarp that like 30 people crammed in under during the dead. i was 'tarpman' and hailed as chief for 2 hours. it was a blast, but i was literally exhausted after that ordeal. not to mention the dead played a subpar show in my opinion. warren kept fucking the words up and he even had a teleprompter in front of his face. i still had a great time, though.peace

I had my 15 minutes of fame as well, during Dave Mathews me and Ares rolled around in the dirt half-naked out of our skulls. We got right up to the stage thanks to Ares' incessant belligerence. Oh, Bonnaroo...

I believe you dude! words have never done it justice for me either, i try to explain to people how much fun i had and how much of an experience it is, but my words just don't do it.
I'm glad i was tripping so hard at the dead, cause i don't remember mr haynes missing any words, i thought he did a pretty good job. after that show, wow..ween, primus, robert randolph all playing at once. i wandered between those three shows through the mud, feeling half dead but not wanting to give out. yonder mountain, sci, burning spear, and mmw were some of my other favorites. i was also pleasantly surpised with dave matthews and friends! up on cripple creek may very well have the best song performed the whole weekend. the only show i was disappointed with was trey..i don't think it was actually his fault. the symphony idea was great, but everyone was on their very last ounce of energy just for him, and that kinda killed it. by the time he got his real band out, i didn't feel much like dancing. it was still a killer show though, devil went down to georgia and push on til the day revived me. ended up being an unforgetable way to go out with first tube and the fireworks. i can't wait to meet you all there this summer!

here are my roo pics from 04 that turned out. Most where shit. I was there 03 and 04. The scene was a lot shadyier in 04. The band list gonna have to be good for me to go again. I figure im probably 80% gonna go. Unless the band list sucks. (premium spaced open camping within hear/see mainstage glad we hiked it there.)

Good luck getting in, they had it last year it was very expensive with huge lines.
I'm staying home this year, 3 years in a row are plenty for me. I think I'll stick to seeing one or two bands at a time for awhile unless I hit up a small festival.

I bought my wristband from someone in a Walmart parking lot for like 50 bucks but then got kicked out and snuck back in, because one of the guards saw that my wristband had been taped. Haha fuck that guy, I saw the same guard on Sunday after I had snuck back in, I was like "haha fuck you "

Lol...Baraka...I remember seeing the parade with that dragon float tripping nuts. My friends and i were sooo confused as to what was going on. It was crazy how that lady was inside the mouth. But the weirdest part was the william hung music, I think he might have been on the float because he was at bonaroo. Fucking nuts....

I might try to make it this year for the first time, dunno. I could have gone in '02 when I was a senior in HS but didn't have a job at the time and couldn't afford tickets. then I kind of forgot about it the following years. I'm not into a ton of the artists that have played other than Ween, Primus (and Claypool's other projects), The Flaming Lips, and DJ Cut Chemist/Jurassic 5 would be cool.
I just think the experience would be really awesome even though I'm not into big festivals. I might actually be in Amsterdam this summer when it's happening, though. I only live about 5 hours from Manchester, TN so I might try to find a ride. we'll see...even though I don't really know you all I'd be down.

Yes, I am so there! It's gonna be Bonnaroo #4 for me and my girl. What a freakin' blast, man! Even though the scene and general vibe has changed, it's still an assload of live music combined with great people and plentiful...vendors. Good times, good times! And I would love to meet up with some of y'all and burn some fatties. Two artists I want to be there: Ben Harper ('04 wasn't the same without him) and Tool. Toolaroo!! or Bennaroo!! Peace!!

they are very loose about drugs and stuff, but they run a pretty tight ship with the braclets and tickets...you'd first have to make it through the first entrance without a ticket, that's where they stop you and look in your trunk (their main concern is weapons, not drugs), take your tickets, give you a wristband, etc..then you'd have to sneak by security every time you go into the centeroo where the music is. you have to walk single file through metal gates and show the security person your wristband, i think this part would be very difficult. i would rather see people support events like this and buy a ticket, but if you really have your heart set on going for free, i guess there's no harm in trying. i'd be impressed if you pulled it off

alright - thats what i was wanting to hear.
Thanks..
I know people who have snuck into smaller events like Shambahla no problem.. Just sneeking through the tree's or swamp, and hopping a fence..
I figured if it was just a big perimeter fence guarded by dude's on ATV's - id get through no problem. If i have to constantly sneek around - fuck it.
We'll see what happens - it just limits who i bring, if im payin'

yeah, security is kinda lax around the camping perimeter. especially at night, but there are roaming roo people, so be careful. i have paid for my tickets every year, but i know plenty of folks sneak in. we jumped the fence to get out(it was down in places), so we could go to walmart to get some steaks and shit for food/drinks. we got harrassed by these chicks that were workin the perimeter. the bracelets are a bit of a problem if you are planning to get in to see the music. people, last year, after seeing what color the bracelets were, went to the local kinko's and got some stuff to make their own. this is kinda hit or miss on the gates, though. be careful...

i will be at roo again for sure.. Last year was a blast, but i never got to meet up with any shroomerites!! booo to that. We neeeed to figure out a day and time to all meet up somewhere.
as far as the clearchannel shit. this is what i heard from a very nice very intellectual guy from the rainbow family that i met cause we both were singin the same willy nelson tune on the way out of the tres show. he said that what happend is that clearchannel bought the land that bonnaroo is run on. All of it. I think that some of the camping sites are still rented by local farmers, but clearchannel bought all the other parts.

I've been at roo the last 2 yrs, and will hopefully be there this year. But if it conflict with the NE gathering in Ohio, or it comes down to going to one of the other, I'll be going to Ohio. But hopefully I see you all there

Usually the NE Gathering organizers make it so that it doesn't conflict with any major events like Roo. That's what they did last year anyways, and I STILL didn't make it to Ohio. We were spiralled off somewhere in Appalachia...

So CC bought the 700 acre farm, or what's used of it for Roo, from the man that originally lived on and owned the land?

Hell yeah i cannot wait for the next roo!
-------------------- A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

what I'm excited about is a little bit of freedom. Bonnaroo has alot of great freedoms, but it comes packaged with alot of bullshit. Every year getting more crowded and crowded; you can't even see the grass you are camping on!!! You have 10 feet for your stuff infront of your car? what is that about?!
Yes 10,000 lakes festival has trees for shade and everything, much less hot. I'm excited at the 2 band line up so far. I hope to see some other great bands added soon.
