Radiohead is my fav active band (Orbital my all time fav), but even I'll admit that lately their stuff has gotten, not so much melancholic, but too wussy....

I miss the old rockin' R'head. Even Hail to the Thieves had some songs I'd crank up in the car by myself.

Orbital started to suck towards the end too. They should have quit after In Sides.

It really is. Like as if it's not bad enough you're playing 2.5 notes a minute (in E Minor), the guy has to sing in the most screeching, depressing.. I-want-to-blow-my-brains-out-but-I'm-too-tired-to-pull-the-trigger-and-you-should-too kind of way.

I saw Metallica in '04 or '05 and they did play a lot of older tunes. They even opened with "Blackened", which is a great opener in my opinion. James's voice does not sound the same on the thrashier stuff, but most "purist" Metallica fans would still enjoy the show.

Well yeah... they know they HAVE to play their older stuff or else no one would come to their shows. But yeah the band just went to shit after they all cut their hair, but it really started falling apart when Cliff died.

Meh! "And Justice for all" and the "black album" were great. It's after the black album they sucked nuts.

That's basically what I said. Master of Puppets was their best album by far, IMO. But Bob Rock produced the black album, and that's also when they chopped their hair off. That was a much different album but still good.. also the last good album they produced.

zep would be cool.. but metallica? seriously.. who's next, the foo fighters? jet?

it sucks that a festival like this builds it's name off the jam, psychedelic rock scene.. and then spirals into mediocrity.. radiohead & tom petty were borderline last year... this year w/ Tool and The Police was also pretty bleh for headlining talent... Metallica would be a total shit booking, imo.

this year they had TOOL. which is some dumb harder shit that is totally against the Original Roo Fan's attitude. Mettalica would suck to go see.I'd probably skip that show

Led ZEp would be the coolest band ever to play there, just ahaead of RAdiohead.

U2, im not a big fan of. would like someone else over them.

I guess I qualify as one of the "original roo fans" since I was there the first three years, and I'm going to have to COMPLETELY disagree with you on the comment about Tool.  I know not everyone is into them because they can get pretty heavy, but they are a fucking amazing and complex band that appeals to a wide variety of people, and especially people who trip I've found.  They put on a sick show at roo and and everywhere else I've seen them.  It's just simply not "some dumb hard shit".  I just really hate it when people completely disregard a band just because they are a bit heavy.  I mean, how about a little variety in your music?

While I do agree that having U2 or Metallica at bonnaroo would be pretty lame, I'm really sick of all the people talking about the music  changing at bonnaroo.  I know that in the beginning they were catering pretty much exclusively to the jam scene, but over the years they have  turned it into something much better and more interesting than that.  Most people that I know who are into the "jam scene" have a wide variety of musical tastes and I think it's awesome how bonnaroo has been trying to accommodate as many as they can.

I will say that The Police was a lame choice though for last year.  It did give me some time for a little nap though.

metallica is seriously one of the worst main stream bands ever.

not only is their music shitty, but they are assholes to boot.

each to their own, i guess..

i thought Tool's show at 'roo last year was one of the worst live performances i've ever seen/heard. Couldn't distinguish *anything*... it's just a mash-up of noise.. call that talent if you want. And, supposedly they're sooo psychadelic live... they had some shitty 4'x4' visual screens on the sides of the stage and a few martin lights, or whatever they were... i've seen better visuals and lights at shitty warehouse parties.

I really don't understand tool or radiohead's appeal, musically... but, radiohead was a far better performance than tool, for sure.

Screw all these super-rock bands headlining, anyways... just give good bands headlining slots but let them play for like 4 hours... people are going to go to 'roo regardless at this point.. and who really cares if attendance falls off by 10k or so... more comfortable atmosphere, as i see it.

I'll definitely pass if Metallica is a headliner.

Zeppelin would be cool I guess, but it would awesome if it was Cream instead. :stoned:

Metallica would suck to see at Bonnaroo. Now Zeppelin, say whatever you want, would be a dream come true. Even if you don't like them you have to admit how ledgendary and important they were rock music.

I saw Tool at Lolapalooza 97. They were awesome. It didn't sound anything like a mashup of noise.. then again.. i haven't really heard any of their music past Aenima.

And I don't think you can go wrong with Zep
