hello, i am pretty new here. i just need some advice i guess....i have been taking 40mgs of oxi a day for 2 months now and before that hydromorphone for about the same time(6mgs a day) and i called my doctor today to get more oxy, seeing as i have 4 left. and he had me come in. he told me that he was no longer going to give me the oxy, or any thing else for that matter. i have no drug abuse, what so ever i don't smoke weed, and i believe i still have a need for this medication. i am kind of worried that when my meds run out i will face with drawl....i was not aware that it was safe/good practice to suddenly stop with that high a dose of opiates, my friend who pointed me to this site offered some of his poppies but that is only short term. should i find a new doctor, and do you think i will face with drawl?

The reason he's taking you off is because of risk of addiction.

yea...but i still need some kind of meds, and i was under the impression that if you have been taking these types of meds, it is best to go off slow rather then all at once.... i may be wrong but i hope i don't get sick, i cant miss work.

I'd just ask him to fill out some kind of scrip to ease the pain cause I highly doubt a new doctor with fill the script for you. Just explain to him that you feel if its best if you can get a few more low dose pain killers. That way he gets the impression that your intentions are not abuse but to help you.
If it comes down to it and he wont give you anymore just get them elsewhere.

What did you do, pop a tendon?? I almost did that a few years ago. Luckily it stayed on one piece and so it was easy to find.

There are websites you can go to, and order medication (like ultram AKA Tramadol). That will ease withdrawal symptoms. If you've been taking that much for 2 months, then yes, you will probably feel withdrawal symptoms, and they're not pleasant. Your Doctor is probably trying to look out for your best interests, but he should be more responsible about it, and lower your dose and/or change the medication. I would explain to him that you're worried about opiate withdrawals and ask him to possibly prescribe you percoset/vicodin/ultram to help step down the daily intake.
Good Luck, hope it works out for the best

you said not smoking weed, would that help with the pain better than opiates would?
I just know that I don't like opiates at all from my experience with their comedown nasty effects.... and that even if weed doesn't kill pain quite as well as them, I would consider it a far better medicine and it's sad it's scheduled so tightly.
i would eat the weed though for sure, especially for bodily pain reduction..... instead of smoke.
