Don't trust the huge corporate pharmacutical$. It's companie$ like that, making ritalin, gettin little kids hooked. Families get like 400$ for each kid on ritalin and their schools get the same. We gotta get back to our roots, its this plastic, synthetic world we live in that is the dominant factor in our psychological problems. Good luck.

I used to be in that boat..
My live-in girlfriend of many years ago USED to get an SSI check for her son that was prescribed ritalin for a little more that $400 a month... CLINTON signed a bill that STOPED those checks... (he had too- well over 90% polled disagreed with it back in the 90's)
People were too pissed about it, and quite frankly I dont blame them.
However the kids that are prescribed it dont act towards ritalin the way people with normal brains do... Most of us will find ritalin to be a very clean speed.... to those that need it (some adults) it actually calms them down for a SHORT WHILE... this is the purpose of the drug.
Im not a fan of giving kids ritalin either, cuz in my experience many of the kids dont want to take it (will fake swallowing pills), and more importantly they do seem to get a tolerance to it quickly. (might calm a kid down for 30 mins after a year of taking it) - Just a waste of money to me.

I take zoloft and it helps both my mood and my thoughts. They are most certainly good for me and I am greatful that they are available. It's not normal, nor is it good to cry every day like 30 times a day, have irregular sleep, feel hopeless and miserable about yourself all the time, feel lots of stress and anxiety, etc...
Zoloft helps lessen all of those symptoms that I have experienced and I like that.

I used to take Effexor.I know what you mean about that "Blank Feeling" I would'nt take them unless you're suicidal and they give you some relief.... 100 years from now, whats it all gonna matter anyways? Learn to develope an "I don't give a fuck attitude" when you can't do anything about it anyways.

A friend of mine was on some doctor prescribed anti depressents (I forget which one). About two weeks after he started taking them he changed completely. He started having problems with serious criminal behavior. At one point he with through a shopping center at night and smashed almost every store window there. Finally he got arrested after he tried to rob a liquor store with a knife. Can't say that this is a common thing, but it ruined his life.

Take a long needed vacation, with much time for yourself. So you can find out your true reason for depression. Never take anti-depressants, they make you numb. And don't solve anything.

Not reading the thread (no time, maybe later), but I will post a story for you regarding Effexor.
A FOAF was on Effexor for depression or some shit, and he stopped taking it for about 3 days. He decided to go upstairs and make a sandwich, so he did. When he realized they were out of mayonaise, he started to cut his wrists with a steaknife. He said in retrospect that that IS scary as all hell, and not normal, but he said that that is seriously how sad it made him feel at the time.
Stay the fuck away from anti-depressants unless you have tried EVERYTHING else. That includes things like pot, high dose psychedelic trips, change in lifestyle, moving, etc....
Be careful with OTC's. They're dangerous as fuck. (Although they do help some people, don't get me wrong, just inform yourself before you dive in.)

I do believe anti-depressants are necessary for some people but most doc's hand them out like candy to those who don't know how to deal with their problems. More people need to be looking at counseling or something along those lines rather than a magical cure. I just feel like a lot of society wants to run away from the issues in thier lives. This makes me very sad.:( I was at a dinner party one night and everyone started talking about what anti-depressants they were on, it became aparent that out of 12 to 14 of us that only me and my husband were the only ones at the table who were not on anything. That was disturbing to the 2 of us.

Killjoy...
You can't possibly blame the effexor on your friends friend's dumb mistake. He was on the effexor for depression or another illness in the first place. I bet the percentage of severely depressed patients it helps is greater than the ones it doesn't help. Anyways I have found most prescription drugs to have too bad of side effects to take them, including effexor. I think it is the psychiatrists fault usually in my experience. They should start people on something that can be tolerated to begin with and not start someone out on strong pills.

I'v been diagnosed as severly deppresed in the past. Which i was. I tried Zoloft, and Prozac. Both of which killed all of my emotions and zombied me out. Now a few years after all that i have a much better outlook on life and Was put on another ant-depressant against my will. I take 40 mg of Celexa and find it really helps alot. I tend to handle bad situations alot better and am told i am alot easyer to deal with. If you think it would help you i'd recomend trying it out

My belief is that antidepressants evade the problem, don't solve them. They numb the pain but at the same time don't really allow you to turn that frown upside down. The only solution can come from within.
