something growing on my caps!

i have three huge casings fruiting now. onsome of the bigger i noticed ther was a nodular thing growing out the middle of the cap. at first it almost lookeed like a second cap forming. it is a lot lighter in colo tha the cap. almost the same color as the stem. does anyone know what this is and what caused it? is it genetic or some enviromental factor or what???

Sounds like a mutant. It should be ok, as long as it is not a weird color. Eat it!!
