From this series of shots, we can actually see that the pace of growth isnt constant, the mushroom gains more and more height per hour as time passes.
I will post the numbers later.

i always had the feeling that darkness help the shrooms grow.
now it is proven somehow, although i need more detailed data. in my next crop
so here is the diagram:

My exact feelings minas
When I reduced my light hours to less than 5 the difference was deffinatelly noticeable.
The 12/12 or 10/14 light phase that is suggested is total overkill.
if you supply the mush with 30 mins twice a day they`ll be perfect.

CONCLUSIONS
a) The rate of growth of mushrooms is NOT constant. It increases as time passes. for example, 8 hours after the first photo the growth rate was 1 mm per hour while 42 hours after the first photo the growth rate was 2.66 mm per hour.
b) The rate of growth is higher in darkness than in light conditions.

Nice... so the conclusion is that mushrooms grow faster without light??? How would that work... give em light to initiate pinning then leave the light off till harvest???

a) sorry about the "research" word guyz, my foolishness. it was a joke not correctly spoken. :|
b) i think that light initiates for some good hours (18) pinning and then switching on to a 2-3 hours a day intense lighting, then normal not-so-bright natural light on the room.

okee
here is the table (measurements in mm)
so we see that when the mushroom grew from 26 to 34 mm the rate was 1 mm per hour. then the rate goes down to 0.5 mm/hour because the lights are on! if u closely check the table, you will see that there is 'starting grow rate' of both darkness and intense lighting which is increasing as hours pass.

Do you have any future research planned? Maybe a comparison of fruitbodies from casings grown under different lighting conditions.
Does any know of any information regarding light spectrums and mushroom pinning/growing times?

Very nice.
Was that 4 hours on and 4 hours off, for the lights? The time interval wasn't consistant.
What about 30 minutes of light a day vs. 8 hours a day??

I run my growing cycles at about 5 hours of light from a 25 watt flouresent and the rest of the time almost complete darkness.I have a very low watt (7 watt) small night light in my grow room.I also water my cakes directly (5 cc) every other day.My research shows that they do grow more in the dark hours with almost no caps opening until my high light part of the cycle.They seem to grow very rapidly after the 2nd watering.Several inches over several hours.My last cakes had 11 mushrooms all over 4 inches closed caps.These cakes were on their second flush.They do seem to grow better with a very low watt light.And they seem to grow fast.I hope this is of some use to some one.

I have a growroom 4x8 ft with an 8ft ceiling and my heat source is an oil filled raidiator heater.It has settings from 1 to 9.I keep it at about 1 and sometimes 2.I have a temp tape on the wall and in all of my terriums.The room temp is usually 84 to 86 degrees.The growroom is in the center of my house so that the outside temp has no effect on temp or humidity in my room.I run a ultrasonic humidifier 4 times a day.I hope that helps.Also Im growing a very strong Hawaian strain from Pf tek. 1 gram and your zooming.

very nice start kykeon, but the one item I didn't see was a control. *tsk tsk* If you want to collect valid data you need a control group. And all the sets of mushrooms being tested and the control should preferably be clones. Maybe this is helpful to you?

FBI reports on PF fanaticus's site show that during testing shrooms not exposed to light grew skinnier and taller, and ones with light were shorter and stalkier...but mainly the light is shown to let them know which way to grow.. up .... it does not help on how big they grow...those studies you show show linear growth.. not growth by weight or thickness.. so yes you can say darkness affect the linear growth of shrooms,, but does it make them way more?? or more potent?? doubtfull...just my opinion....

That's some pretty fascinatingly paradoxical shit.
I got a blue diode top center of my grow chamber on 24/7. It gives the shrooms something to grow toward at night, but maybe complete darkness is better in the long run.

Hello my old friend, I like your work, but there a lot of variables involved in growth rate. Too many to make a solid formula hold true for all circumstances. I like the old rule of thumb I've come to realize:
Growing cubensis will double in size approximately every 6 hours until the veil breaks.
