Important question about cooking jars

is it absolutely necessary that i boil muy jars for an hour immediately after i put the substrate in the jars? The reason i ask this is because i filled all my jars up last nigh before i realized that i didnt have any tin foil. it is now the next mornign, and i have th foil now. would these jars still be primo, or would it be advised for me to start all over? Maybe there would be a higher contamination risk now?? Or the amount of water wouldnt be right anymore??
let a brother know.....
thanks.

I think you should be fine. Just look around for any foggy lookign mold or bacteria which might have started to grow on the inside of the jar. Otherwise, sterilize them and use them. After sterilization maybe you should wait about 4-5 days before innoculation. See if any mold or bacteria begins to grow inside the jars. I do this regularly.

If they only rested over the night, they will be ok. But don?t let them sit more then 12 hours unsterilized.

Anno is right. If you don't sterilize very soon after preparing your substrate, competitor molds will begin to use its nutrients and in the end you will have lower yeilds.

If you can't find any tin foil, don't worry about it. Just tighten the lids and make sure the water isn't going to boil over the tops of the jars.

If you tighten the lids, make sure there is a way for the steam to escape from inside the jars (pf-tek holes, etc) or the jars will explode.

i boiled 8 of the jars s far, (i can only do 4 at a time) and it seems that water has gotten in and changed the moisture content. I put 2 lairs of tin fol over each one, but im afraid i have boiled them at too higfh of a temp and water was splashing and geting in somehow. what happened if a cake is too wat? better to just start over?. I put the water in the pan half way up the jars as in the MMGG, but even on the lowest setting the water seems to boil too much! do i just use less water?

I left my rye grain jars sit too long (actually 48 hours) meaning only to let them sit for like 18, but the only thing that happened was the rye kernels started to sprout. i cooked em and spawned them anyway :P they worked just hte same.

Yes.
If you?re boiling the jars in a pot, peek in from time to time and add some hot water if needed.
