Hey, I have been smoking pot occasionally(about once a month) for the last year. Do you guys think my chances of developing lung cancer or any other lung damage have increased a lot? Peace

Unfortunately, because cannabis (pot) is schedule I (in the US) there hasn't been any reliable research done on positive or negative effects. What little research has been done is pretty much useless and mostly used by the government for scare tactics. Getting a quantitative answer to your question is impossible at present, because the research simply doesn't exist. You gotta love those antidrug laws. From a common sense standpoint, anytime you put anything other than clean air in to your lungs, you are increasing your chance of getting lung cancer or having some other problems. How bad is cannabis compared to other things? Donno. Is cannabis smoke worse than sitting in stalled rush hour traffic for two hours a day toking on car exhaust? Is it worse than smoking cigs? Is it worse than sitting around a camp fire? Is it worse than all the dust from the construction site across the street? What I am getting at here is that there are a lot of bad things in the air that we breath in every day. By adding cannabis smoke you are making it worse, though no telling how much so. Hopefully, with the new push for medicinal research on cannabis in the US and other countries we will start to get some reliable results from research. Reliable means that the procedures used in the research are published along with the results, and verified by independent labs.

Unless you smoke 20 joints a day, I wouldn't worry about a thing. Try a water pipe if your worried.

Cannabis, whilst carcinogenic, has never been even remotely linked to cancer of any kind. Ive even read reports of THC stopping the growth of cancerous cells(tumors).

Thats similiar to brith control pills. One study shows that taking the pill increases your chances for getting breast cancer while another study shows that taking the pill decreases your chances for getting ovarian cancer.

Any kind of smoke will increase you chances of problems but if you stick to just once a month thats not going to kill you any time soon.... The problem is---most people who "say" they smoke once a month really smoke a lot more. What's your body saying to you. If it's complaining then it's too much.....
