i think maybe he is just exaggerating a little bit. Although permanent psychosis from psilocybin mushrooms is almost unheard of, there still is a chance that your underlying psychological problems could of caused your 3 month "psychosis". i think that it might of been a case of PTSD. After having my house burn down and all my possessions and journals lost, i had a severe case of PTSD and had almost all the symptoms you had, minus the hallucinations. most likely just a case of bad trip PTSD, but don't worry. it will fade. it might be hard, but it will fade.

There are thousands of cases of people permanently losing their minds through psychedelics. Medical documents pale in comparison to seeing someone who hasn't tripped for 40 years crying at the sight of their own shadow, or a person having to wear sunglasses for the rest of their life after a few trips because they no longer trust human beings enough to display their eyes in public.

If what you mean is that this no longer counts as drug induced psychosis and is schizophrenia, then you're right, but it seems to me that you're basically saying it's impossible for someone to permanently damage their mind through drug use. This just isn't the case. I'm not trying to start an argument with you here, and I don't want to play internet egos, but the fact is a person can permanently psychologically destroy themself through drug use.

Psychedelics are a really beautiful thing, in my opinion. A pathway to mystical experience, if used correctly, but like any tool they have their dangers. Safe use of psychedelics will only come about through a thorough awareness of their inherent dangers and a knowledge of the ways to minimise risk. Permanent psychosis can occur, and learning how to minimise the chances of this happening is a more logical route, in my opinion, than denying that it is even a possibility.

Your totally right. Drug induce psychosis are really not all that uncommon. Basically, drugs can alter the way your brain releases certain chemicals, too much or to little of these chemicals can cause you to have what people call a "psychosis". Its happened to me before from abusing weed. To this day i have to be really careful as to how much weed i smoke, because once it happens once you become more vulnerable to it. I believe that if i had used weed in moderation instead of abusing it, it may never have happened to me.

I do take trips, but i respect them, and i only do them in moderation, many people would advice me against it, and of course i understand with my history there could be an increased chance of something bad happening. But i see tripping as something sacred and its very important to me.

Goodness, drug-induced psychoses happen more often than you might think...to the unexperienced mind, the fragile mind, or someone with latent schizophrenia/mental problems in their family, it can definitely happen.

People with schizophrenia are tricked into seeing a lot of shit sometimes, that's why drugs like psilocybin and LSD can be used to understand what those people are going through. And yeah, they can cause psychosis...cocaine even can cause psychosis where everything you see that is small and white, looks like cocaine. It makes you crazy.

Drug induced psychosis is a very real thing.

You may believe that psychedelics are completely safe, which they are for the most part.

But, they can trigger depression, psychosis and so forth.

It is rare, but it has happened.

There have been quite a few post's of people who post that they are now insane, or tend to just post utter shit, and yeah those are usually fake, but once in a while it can and does happen.

I remember reading a trip report on erowid about a college kid who took LSD with his friend, got separated from the friend, wandered around the woods for a while... eventually he constructed this whole paranoid fantasy of being inducted into some kind of poet's society run by alan ginsberg. He took a bus up to san francisco to be initiated, acted like a nut, got himself arrested, acted so insane in jail that they took him to the psych ward... this lasted a couple of weeks until his parents were able to find out where he was.

The report emphasized that once this delusion was created, it just did not stop. He was 100% convinced for two straight weeks that he was undergoing some sort of trials for initiation into the league of the poets.

Psychedelics are not without their risks. Every psychedelic user should know and appreciate this fact.

It's funny that you bumped a 4+ month old thread just to say that. lol

This thread is a fairly extreme example of why I never recommend a whole eighth to first timers and feel those do are being wreckless. If you handle a smaller dose fine then good and you have the rest of your life to explore and enjoy higher doses later.

Yeah...it amazes me that people don't think there are negative consequences to drugs. Psychedelics can give you great insight, religious or spiritual feeling, oneness with self and nature, but at a cost. Same holds true with all types of drugs, really..

Any non-believers you can go in and get a cat-scan of your own brain if you think you slipped by unscathed...unless you've taken precaution in not abusing psychedelics/other drugs. I'll tell you that my brain probably has a bit of damage done to it, I'm not gonna lie. But I do believe their benefits to how I view life have outweighed the drawbacks, if only for now.

"You can't know what DPS is like unless you've experienced it first hand but it is definately not fun. Its a very strange illness, you feel yourself slip just like that in a matter or seconds. Your in a familiar but plasticy and fake world, you lose your sence of self, sense of humour etc feels like a dream or very intense de-ja-vu. I am lucky that is not permanent for me, but I still have random flash backs caused by a thought that reminds me of being depersonalized, usually if I have been smoking, and in a matter of seconds I'll be dp'd again."

Reading this triggered my intitial thoughts of the strange mushroom world; that sometimes come back after smoke. I've also felt it on Acid, (which I've just done three times this past year), but it's no where like the mushroom days.

I was an adolescent stoner/wanna be hippie. My first 7 trips were spread out over roughly 6 months. The first time was a Goldmine...but the day after I got thrown out of this place. Let's just say I thought I was schizophrenic.

It took a lot of guts and a lot of courage to rationalize the experience; figuring out that perhaps I was schizophrenic; and perhaps this is what it's going to be like if I don't change.

I used them again, (never over 4 grams again), and achieved insightful visions, idea's, and reasonings to go on and keep on, and be what I want to be without feeling ugly.

Before drugs I was a very quiet, shy, only fun if you knew me kind of guy. I think to much of people; and sometimes it gets the worse of me. But I've realized I just want to be more of an influence.
An influence to everyone.

TO much knowledge kept inside is very dangerous. The only impact you can have on people and on yourself is to be creative in all the right ways you feel inside.
