Cobweb mold an issue
    #555144 - 02/18/02 09:51 AM (14 years, 8 months ago)

I noticed a couple of my rye 1 1/2 qt jars (oddly enough, the only 2 infected ones were spawned on the same day... possibly a contaminated master spawn) and there was a couple areas on the rye that wasnt colonizing.
They were shaken up initially to distribute the spawn, and then again after they reestablished again, then left to sit.
Then a few spots on the rye just wouldnt colonize. After 3 or 4 days, the non-colonized spots had this greyish color to them. It looked nothing like mycelium, and nothing like newly colonizing mycelium.
Is this the cobweb mold to which you guys refer? or am i just getting paranoid, or is cobweb mold found after casing??

I did a search for cobweb mold, but turned up no pics..
a pic is what i was really after

My computer crashed, but Im up again. So I have no pic but it sounds like thats what you have. Cobweb mold can be greyish and it also grows alot faster than Mycelia. One good test is to squirt it with a small mist of H202. If it starts to sizzle and melt like cotton candy, then its cobweb or some type of mold. If it doesnt, then it may be the type of mushroom you are growing. But chances are its mold(cobweb) bluhoney:)

Information listed here is for entertainment only and is neither real or proven
