I have been wanting to try this myself. Unfortunately the spores I trade for didn't germinate for me. I am up for trade for some viable spores.

Hey ragadinks, good to hear from you.
I was looking for a way to grow this mushroom on logs. I checked out your earlier post, Volvareilla bombycina and V. bombycina by r05c03 . When I did a google search for images this was one of the.
I have a culture that was started from gill tissue this fall. I tried to start some from fruit bodies and those contaminated with bacteria. One of two attempts with fresh gill started.

Hope that this experiment succeeds. Keep us updated! I will try to get the article about Volvareilla bombycina that is mentioned in that link. If I can get hold of it I will post a translation...

Hey ragadinks, I put the Volvareilla on sterilized maple chips March 10th.
These are some pictures from last night,

The birdseed spawn that was left in the jar from innoculating the maple chips was added to boiled cotton seed hulls on March 19th, just to see what it would do.

Last night I also cooked up some jars of coffee grounds, I added some nutrayeast to the coffee grounds. About a teaspoon to 17 ounces of coffee grounds.

The half gallon jar has 3 ounces of coffee grounds in it and each of the quart jars has 2 ounces. They were pressure cooked for an hour. I inoculated them this evening with an agar wedge.

Just to let everybody know: I was able to get hold of a copy of the article mentioned at the end of falcon's link.
Quote:
Thielke, Ch.: Kultur von Speisepilzen der Gattung Volvariella auf Zeitungspapier. Forum Mikrobiologie 5: 132 (1982)
Have scanned it and uploaded to a web server here. Guess that the copyright won't be a problem with such old articles ? If yes I will have to remove it from there - otherwise I could even attach it to this post here .
If anybody needs help with translation - just let me know and I will see what I can do.
cheers, raga

Hey ragadinks, thanks for the link I think I will need help with the translation.

The coffee grounds colonized well. I am thinking about sterilizing the dirt to put on the coffee grounds to case it. I will add some pictures soon.
I also added some grain to used coffee ground that were not sterilized. They colonize the coffee ground quickly. They have not fruited though. I will try to get it to fruit outside by burying the colonized coffee grounds in the summer. edit4/23/06 I just checked the ones on unsterilized coffee grounds and they are moldy.
falcon

Two of the jars I shook are completely colonized and the two I didn't shake are not.

Have tried to translate the article cause the google translation was not very good - you can find it here. Hope the translation is ok - otherwise tell me and I will change it.

In the article it says that cased substrate did show pins much faster then uncased substrate.
How did the mycelium on the maple chips ?
