When working with V. bombycina I found the mycelium easily catches contams, which are hard to get rid of. Slow growth, higher fresh air requirement and sudden death are sure signs of these problems. Terry, maybe you can let it pin on MEA or something else and clone again from an egg. This way pilz-kultur once quickly cleaned a contaminated sample I sent him.
And V.b. is no tropical species. The culture going around was cloned by lionsman from an UK wild find.
