broken digital hygrometer -- is there a fix?

i just bought this thing from canadian tire and i lost my receipt. It's one of the accu-temp ones.

The humidity in my nearly-saturated greenhouse is reading 27%
The temperature is LL.LL (in the instructions i says this means below range).

What did i do wrong? Why is it such a piece of junk? Has anyone else experience problems with these things? Is there a fix?

how long has it been in there? Most hygrometers cannot be stored in the fruiting chamber, the condensation fucks with the sensor, try taking it out, let it dry out then put it bvack in for a short period of time, also look through the instructions for a way to reset the unit.

best thing for wet electronics is to let em dry for a few days. theyll usually work just fine after that. turning em on while theyre wet will burn em out though.

I read a thread once where someone got a palm pilot soaked with an adult beverage. He rinsed it (under water) and dried it several times....the last time he rinsed it with distilled water. After drying, it came back on perfectly and retained all the information.

There is hope. and when all else fails, drop 14+shipping on the Agar special! :P

Even at their best, I've found the electronic hygrometers to be mediocre in performance. You can find a decent, cheap mechanical hygrometer at cigar shops and pet stores. Calibrate by wrapping in a damp towel for an hour, then unwrap and adjust the screw on the back so the dial reads 98%. Repeat calibration monthly, as they drift.
